Ready for dungeon crawling in Newhon

One of my proudest achievements was being lead writer and designer on DCC Lankhmar. Leiber’s work changed the way I looked at fantasy settings, so adapting Newhon for DCC was a dream gig. The fruits of the Lankhmar team’s efforts are available on Fanatical as a big honkin’ bundle right now.

I've mentioned before that I read Fritz Leiber's Sword & Sorcery before I read Robert E. Howard's prose fiction. (The Conan comics introduced me to S&S.) When I write in the genre, what little world building I do probably bears more resemblance to Leiber than Howard. More Newhon than Hypborean.

I managed to pick up a copy of Our Lady of Darkness at the Last Bookstore in LA a few years back. Recently I got all the Newhon books (mostly by raiding used bookstores) and I'm set to read the series from beginning to end for the first time!

Si no recuerdo mal hay una acedota que contó Sandy Petersen que como Chaosium tenia apalabrada una adaptación con Fritz Leiber de Newhon. Al ver que tambien se solapaban ahi los Blume dijeron "Bueno pues siempre puedes denunciar a Leiber" para horror de Greg Staford, que adoraba a Leiber.

The jokes here are:
Newhon - proposed slur for trans woman who is less far along in transition than you

Swords of Lankhmar - one of the Farfhd and the Grey Mouser stories which takes place in the world of Nehwon, which is looks basically the same if you're scanning quickly

Don't feel bad, I only realized it's "Nehwon" and *not* "Newhon" a couple of years ago.

And its literally my favorite literary fantasy setting.

Maybe I have The Curse of the Smalls. Like Gray Mouser. Greetings from Lankhmar. I've probably done something wrong for the Gods of Newhon.

After playing D&D for over 40 years, I'm just getting around to reading the whole series (and that's even after being in a Newhon campaign back in the 90s)

Moorcock did just publish a brand-new Elric novel about 3 years ago, and I was able to get a 2-volume set of the other 8 novels. Leiber is a bit harder - I have 4 of the 7 Newhon books, plus a copy of "Our Lady of Darkness" (which indeed is groundbreaking horror)
