‘The child brain’s tendency toward delightful non sequitur and unpredictable meanderings is not aligned with an L.L.M.’s orientation toward speed and sleekness and summary, toward frictionless, rational outcomes.’

We need to develop an understanding that climate denial is first and foremost ideological and not driven by the supposed ‘non-ideology’ of rational self-interest/greed
“The Daily Nebraskan found in the leaked spreadsheet that every program eliminated appeared to be profitable…every program that the chancellor proposed eliminating generated more money from tuition dollars than the department costs to run”

I, personally am BEGGING a decent, rational, uncorrupted, non-AIPAC stooge Pennsylvanian to PLEASE primary this dude.

An entirely reasonable and rational response by non-US scientists (and others) will be to stop coming to the US. These sorts of actions will turn the US into a pariah state, where embassies routinely offer warnings about traveler safety.

Yeah, don’t think I’ll be travelling to the United States anytime soon!
French researcher, going to a conference in Houston, was forbidden entry to US; his work and personal electronics were both confiscated.

Why? Because a “random search” of his cell phone revealed a negative personal opinion on Trump and the Trump administration. www.lemonde.fr/internationa...

The Mearsheimer worldview is that there are 194 rational, prudent, non-ideological countries in the world, and also America.
His evidence for why it was a limited strike not meant to take and hold seems to be that it was that the operation was obviously too small and badly designed for taking Kiev, and so taking Kiev could not have been what Putin was actually trying to do

JUST IN: Congressman Don Bacon of Nebraska, one of the only non-MAGA Republicans in Congress, says he will NOT seek reelection.

This is sad news for anyone hoping for a more rational Republican Party. t.co/zRH0IHPA7P

As a non-professional reading this, it sure looks like:

Q: What are the rational limits of the powers you're asserting under this statute?

A: None, lol.

Thank you sir, for pointing out what is obvious to every rational, non-racist, non-red hat wearing human being with active firing neurons. 🎯🎯🎯👇

the media class is so cooked. people rightly complain that journalists don't know history but they also don't seem to know journalism. the idf's relationship with nypd has been reported on many times over the last decade.

Once again, if Chotiner wants to interview you, the only rational response is to change your name and flee to a non-extraditing country

Part of the struggle with the LLM discourse is that genuine (i.e. non-grifter) proponents talk exclusively about the possibilities of the transformer architecture in an ideal future with a rational business model.

Whereas opponents largely talk about the world we live in today, and its constraints.
What many of us have been saying for a while: AI*-related technologies are tools like any other technology, useful in some places, not in others. If it had been presented (and funded) as such, we'd be in a better place.

Instead, tech ideologues pushed AI* as the Second Coming, went all-in on it. /1
Insights from Ben Affleck on AI:

• AI can help write scenes but can't create full movies.

• Job loss fears are overblown because adoption of new tech is slow; it's hype for startup valuations.

• ChatGPT v5 is ~25% better but costs 4x.

• Users actually preferred v4's sycophancy for companionship.

Also, science fiction often has magical/non-rational bits to it, and fantasy will often adhere to the laws of physics to some degree, etc, it's all very fungible and the person who absolutely insists that everything exist in one specific silo only can get tiresome very quickly. Let it be messy.

Markets are not rational because energy executives are all republicans and thus they believe fossil fuels will always be cheaper than renewables for very non market reasons (refusal to admit their Millennial daughters were right about something)
No one told Northwest Energy and now it’s all our problem

It’s always been a myth that the business class are the rational realists of society. No demographic has bought into magical thinking harder than they have. Even “Ivermectin cures Covid” is arguably less detached from reality than “infinite growth is not just possible but non-negotiable.”

There is no non-cruel, or economically rational, explanation for this.
Medicare is no longer covering telehealth visits.

Congress has not extended the coverage given during the pandemic, and with the government shutdown that extension is unlikely anytime soon.

So elderly patients on Medicare can no longer take medical appointments from home.

This little knowledge pipeline of ideas out of one person's head into another person's head isn't supposed to be used for a firehose of non thoughts generated by a non sentient slop pump, only some of which seem vaguely rational.

And again, this guy has always been a rambler, he's always been non sequitur-prone, rational thought and logic have never been his strong suits.

But this is not 2016 Trump, or 2020 Trump.

Or even 2024 Trump.

It's extremely sobering.
