#oceanographers
Honestly impressed that somebody knows there are different kinds of oceanographers.

In this beer cave that used to be the cool candy zone with the scaled up toy train at the Pittsford Wegmans, we talk to three seismic geologist oceanographers who explain how a flipped Red Guam in fact was the tectonic butterfly fulcrum causing the Blue Tsunami.

Well, you weren't kidding about extra painful for oceanographers and astrophysicists. Being from a family that's got both of those, I probably shouldn't share. But I'm going to.

And that brings me to my vaguely related question: is BC's no time change policy igniting any conspiracies?

I actually thought of that as a solution.

However, I need input from Oceanographers and other scientists to weigh in on the impact of warming the surrounding water

On 10 January 1992 a container of 28,800 plastic bath toys went overboard from a container ship in a winter storm near the Date Line. Ten months later the first ones washed up near Sitka, Alaska, and oceanographers began using them to study ocean currents.

Bay of Bengal countries launch ocean research network for fisheries management
India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the Maldives have joined hands with oceanographers and marine scientists to establish a regional network of ocean science experts to strengthen the integration of oceanographic information into fisheries research and management. BOB-NOR to link ocean, climate and fisheries data The Bay of Bengal Network of Ocean Researchers for Fisheries (BOB-NOR) was launched to link ocean observations, climate information, and fisheries data to understand better changing fish populations across the region. The network was launched at an international meeting hosted by the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CMFRI), on the sidelines of an international symposium on fisheries and remote sensing. The meeting brought together representatives from the four participating countries, along with leading oceanographers and marine scientists from the US, Brazil, Chile, Portugal, the UK and Greece. Network to support climate-informed fisheries management BOB-NOR will bring together ocean researchers, fisheries scientists and experts from participating countries to integrate satellite observations, oceanographic surveys, climate indicators and fisheries data. It will examine how changes in sea temperature, monsoon patterns, salinity, ocean productivity and currents influence fish distribution, migration, recruitment and abundance. The initiative aims to promote predictive, climate-informed approaches to fisheries management, moving beyond conventional catch-based assessments. Initiative...

🌊 Ocean sciences

The shape of the seafloor influences the #ocean above it.

Seabed maps help oceanographers understand currents, tides and mixing, and how underwater terrain shapes the movement of water, heat and nutrients.

They just default to "this island never really existed." When even most oceanographers dont believe this.

The water itself has become a casualty.

Satellite oceanographers at the University of South Florida found that oil spills in the Gulf covered roughly four times as much area in March 2026 as they did a year earlier.

Oil pollution on the Persian Gulf's surface has doubled because of the war in Iran, according to satellite oceanographers at the University of South Florida. Vessels have been targeted in the Strait of Hormuz for months, and experts fear for the region's marine life.

And of course male oceanographers discredited Carson’s work right quickly.
It's Wednesday, and I wanted to take a moment to highlight Rachel Carson, who wrote lovingly about eels in her first book, UNDER THE SEA WIND (1941).

Part of the book follows Anguilla the eel on her long migration from a small New England pond all the way to the Sargasso Sea. 1/3

When the Trump Administration threatened ocean sensors that help manage fisheries, forecast weather, and understand climate change, I worked with colleagues across the aisle to save them. Our bipartisan bill unanimously passed—and the sensors are back in the water!
