#palliation
Goodbye #BaeFoLa! Hello #FoodAndLanguageLab!

🍩 Season 11 starts this month and it was time for a rebranding. New name, new design, but the same amazing community (always open for new members 🤩) and wonderful talks 🍩

Organizing this is one of my favorite things to do 🥰

This preliminary study tested a structured End-of-Life care model, the Acute Basic Palliation Concept, in general practice. Findings suggest it is feasible, highlighting the potential of structured approaches to strengthen community-based palliative care

The stats points don't go anywhere either, seems to be preparing to make a point about why AD deaths make up an increasing proportion of deaths over time whereever it's brought in, then doesn't quite. Same with palliation, altho does commit to claiming intensive care is a form of AD of all things.

What if repair isn’t always possible? 🌍

Kelly Fritsch and Anne McGuire explore disability justice, palliation, mutual aid, reproductive technology, and collective survival, and what it means to care for worlds that can’t simply be fixed.

(albeit a more cautious one than I was many years ago) and I agree that there does appear to be some wild misunderstandings about what palliation looks like (even I am primarily talking about about hospital-based palliations on the ward and ICU).

Nonetheless, I do think "dying from your disease

The line is further blurred by palliation not being a single thing. Somebody with terminal cancer and a 2-year prognosis may be admitted to intensive care with pneumonia on antibiotics.

As such, any ceiling of care is arguably an "assisted death". By agreeing not to provide CPR, usually in my case

That closes the series. Twenty notes, one argument: friction is not only an obstacle. Some of
it is infrastructure.

Impact of Residual Lesions following Norwood Palliation
CONCLUSIONS: Major residual lesions post-Norwood are associated with poorer transplant-free survival and fewer days alive and out of hospital at 12 months but are not associated with increased rates of reintervention post-Norwood discharge. Global rank scores confirmed poorer outcomes in Class-3. Given these findings, patients with RLS Class-3 warrant close follow-up.

Statement 11 (cont.): I suspect some places do this really well – after all most geriatricians are experts in palliative care – but sometimes it’s more of a mindset. Has anyone actually written (and explained to the patient / family) that the surgical intent is focussed on palliation? 22/N

My reply is always the same—at childbirth. That is because palliation is not about prolonging life at all. I will say it again: palliative care is not about prolonging life at all. The only purpose of palliative care is to give quality of life.

That looks like an very cool death set up
People forget it can be a long process and palliation means to make less, to make more comfortable
For everyone involved in the process

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation in Children after Fontan Operation
CONCLUSIONS: Hospital survival after ECMO following Fontan palliation has improved compared with prior reports. Avoidance of pre-ECMO arrest and earlier cannulation are potentially modifiable factors that may improve outcomes in these patients. Prospective studies are warranted to better define timing, outcomes and optimal support strategies in this population.

situations. In these cases palliation leads to conspiracy theories, group think & protection, identity protection, surrender, outgroup villainization & all sorts of other fear based coping.

break/fix oriented. However, not all problems can be readily or fully fixed. This leads to all sorts cognitive chaos & feeds directly into the second response palliation. Palliation is all about easing the discomfort of unsolvable situations. It's where the term palliative care comes from.

There are lots of similarities in both peoples & governments responses to COVID & climate change. Why? Well it's not random, it's the way we apes roll. When we are faced with a threat we tend to broadly respond in two ways. Resolution and/or palliation responses. Resolution responses are very

this is a much better analysis than mine.

Local politics where i live are mostly centered around palliation and preservation of existing power relations, so i often forget that other possibilities exist. Im looking forward to learning a LOT ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
