#pertinacity
The same pertinacity that kept Byrne drawing 2 or 3 comics a month and defending Marvel is the same pertinacity that keeps him from coming back after they fell out.
It was kind of like the Beatles break up, they were good together, and it's a shame.

If we're being honest, this behavior is not atypical. Many men tend to escalate when faced with rejection. In this case, he went the creep route. Others escalate to violence or, at the very least, pertinacity. In any event, boundaries are disregarded.
Mans was confident to even express this to shorty. I give him that. Then he hit the level 3 Desperation Super Move

Well, we might at least be able to allay some of the environmental concerns if the machines were powered by black coffee, biscuits and bloody minded pertinacity.
it'll lay on the jargon with a mix of self-loathing & fear of being exposed

I never tire of snarky essays on Poe.

"It's weird to be human, even as we're unable to compare it with, say, being a macaque or an orchid. We lurch from crisis to crisis, and what knowledge we ever arrive at is likely to surprise us."

Edgar Allan Poe: Self-Help Guru
Poe tells us that being a genius means attracting haters, “a set of homunculi, eager to grow notorious by the pertinacity of their yelpings."

"My dear Kepler, what would you say of the learned here, who, replete with the pertinacity of the asp, have steadfastly refused to cast a glance through the telescope? What shall we make of this? Shall we laugh, or shall we cry?"

From The Den-Aronel Chronicles, Book 1: Flight

“Nevertheless, I am going with you this time.” Her eyes flashed that familiar pertinacity he had grown to admire and also on occasion found utterly vexing. Especially when he was endeavouring to look after her well-being.

It just reminds me so much of my views about Yoo and Bybee and fellow travelers in the mid-2000s. Except that I have no patience and I was arguing that the only real response to the shit they were doing was social/professional ostracism. Law profs were aghast at my pertinacity.

The most arrant denier must admit that a man often furthers larger ends than he is conscious of, and that while he is transacting his particular affairs with the narrow pertinacity of a respectable ant, he subserves an economy larger than any purpose of his own.

White fears abt race mixing was the #1 motivation behind the anti-Black mobs.
“Throughout the ante-bellum period, anti-abolitionists repeated no charge with greater pertinacity than that of amalgamation, & none could more effectively stir up the rancor & the brutality of a mob.” - Richards
