Few times we can study a comet exhibiting so amazing activity, literally losing large pieces, than disrupt into the coma and produce luminous outbursts

☄️Comet 220P/McNaught orbits the Sun every 5.5 years and cannot be observed with small telescopes. This year, it experienced two outbursts 16,000 times brighter than usual. ICE-CSIC analysed these events to delve into its nature.

The Horns of Venus occur near inferior conjunction, where sunlight scatters through the dense atmosphere to extend the crescent’s cusps. This helps scientists measure atmospheric scale height and composition. #Astronomy #PlanetaryScience #Venus #NASA #Astrophysics

A 1,000-mile cloud stretches over Mars's Arsia Mons volcano every Martian year — and astronomers just cracked how. A new study says it forms through ice-crystal physics never directly observed in nature. The Red Planet still keeps secrets. #Mars #PlanetaryScience #Astronomy

I wonder what this means for the upcoming New Frontiers and the rest of future #planetaryscience missions. The goal is to explore other worlds, but first you need some way to get there. That may be getting harder as SpaceX pulls away from non-Starlink launches.

Analysts find looming launch crisis is "more severe" than anticipated
There's no evidence that Starship will launch traditional satellites, either.

A meteorite found in the Sahara desert is a 4.1 billion-year-old sample of Mars' crust, report Liu et al. in @science.org.

Teghaza 001 is geochemically distinct from other Martian meteorites and records ancient reactions with liquid water.

What If Earth Had Two Suns?

No true night. Two shadows. Chaotic orbits. Tatooine looks romantic in the films — the physics would cook the planet.
