The Lady of Elche — an iconic Iberian limestone bust from the 4th century BCE.
The intricate headdress, layered jewelry, and calm expression make it one of the most striking pieces of pre-Roman art in Europe.

Not all pre-modern monarchies are absolute monarchies!

Western European medieval monarchies, so far as I know, were not. Hellenistic monarchy arguably was. Traditional Argead Macedonian monarchy, I'd argue, probably wasn't. Most Bronze Age monarchy was. The Roman Emperor pre-235 mostly wasn't.
Note: early modern theories and practice of kingship not medieval ones please drive through !

Speaking as a Roman who remembers what Britain was like pre-invasion, I too am appalled and terrified by this nostalgia for the pre-Claudian era.

People painted themselves blue. (No, it wasn't "woad", it was blue, just admit it.) No trace of Roman civilisation, not even a senator, let alone wine.

(4/8) The figure is thought to be of Roman date and the style of Deal Man and the focus on the head conforms to Celtic artistic tradition, but the simple form may be traced to the pre-Roman European Iron Age.

I tell myself this every time I get takeout or order pre-made meals. Ancient Roman apartment dwellers didn't cook for themselves, so why am I expected to?

The view from Castle Rheinfels, built in 1245

Archaeology studies show evidence of Roman roads on either side of the river, well pre-dating the castle ruins

Can you even imagine a pre-tomato Italy?! Weird to think that the entire history of the Roman Empire was tomato-free. 🍅 🇮🇹 🚫

Reform presumably furious about "clan-based voting" in south Wales although in this case the clan being the Silures, the Celtic people of pre-Roman Gwent.
Reform are in denial about why they lost by 12% in Gorton & Denton (60% white, 80% UK-born) after losing by 11% in Caerphilly (98% white, 98% UK-born) to Plaid Cyrmu

Both seats unusual in seeing more people vote than at last Welsh Senedd/last GE: more voters turned out to stop Reform than supoort

In pre-Roman Ireland this is how they elected chiefs
Got my first bag of potato chips in months. Cracked it open. The first chip out of the bag was... soggy?

The second chip was almost fungal.

Baffled, I explored the bag and discovered AN ENTIRE POTATO. Unsliced, brined, like a wad of seasoning juice. It had survived, and now was juicing the chips.

This sets the stage for American Christianity in two very important ways. First, many Protestant Christians do not call themselves Protestant Christians, some of them because they see themselves as restoring the true, pre-Great Schism, Pre-Roman Empire church. I am simply ignoring that.

Roman rock-crystal icosahedron (20-sided dice) used in fortune-telling.
Each face has a Latin letter on it and a corresponding Roman numeral, then matched with pre-prepared oracle answers in a divination handbook.
Currently at the Louvre.
