Yeah it is the Tyrannosaurus of land pseudosuchians. Another good pick. Though personally I would go with Fasolasuchus or Prestosuchus. Or Postosuchus if we need a bipedal land croc.

I’m trying to pin down an absolute maximum roster, making sure there are enough diverse prey and competition even for the top tier of predators.
I think Quetzalcoatlus, Asfaltovenator, and Prestosuchus could be a well balanced top tier.
September 7, 2026 at 9:03 AM
I’m still debating on some mid tier predators, but I like Presto as the main rival to Asfalto, since it kindof mirrors the tiny predators.

Ligabueino, Mekosuchus/Araripesuchus, and Dsungaripterus fit as the tiny framework species for Asfaltovenator, Prestosuchus, and Quetzalcoatlus. Poetic.

- estimated 1 meter long only! It's a very recent discovery, having been officially described and named in June 2024! It was found in the Santa Maria Formation, where it would've coexisted with multiple other larger pseudosuchians, like Prestosuchus and Dynamosuchus! (2/2)

A recent revision by Kischlat of the genus Prestosuchus (generally attributed to Huene) determined that it was an unavailable nomen nudum and proposed the new genus Huenesuchus to contain the species ...

Prestosuchus was a big deal relative of crocodiles during the Triassic, until it evolved into something else: Prestochangeosuchus.

Prestosuchus & other loricatans, such as #Postosuchus, were the dominant large, apex carnivores through most of the Triassic. Their dominance of the terrestrial carnivore guild only began to wane in the latest Triassic, with #herrerasaur & #neotheropod dinosaurs emerging as new apex predators.

The deep skull & large serrated teeth denote a powerful predator, and with an estimated length of ~5-7 metres, it was one of the largest carnivores of the Triassic. Prestosuchus was a formidable apex carnivore, foreshadowing the megatheropods of the later #Mesozoic.

#Prestosuchus fossils are known from the Santa Maria Formation of Brazil 🇧🇷 and were first discovered in the late 1920s. It has been recently suggested that the genus may also have been present in Africa, with tentative assignment of fossils from the Manda beds of Tanzania 🇹🇿

Presenting the crocodile-line archosaur, Prestosuchus chiniquensis at the @amnh.org (with myself for scale) for this #FossilFriday. This large pseudosuchian 🐊 from South America lived during the #Triassic (~242-235 Ma) & was one of the top predators of its age.

Meet Prestosuchus chiniquensis. It had large claws, a huge head, and sharp-toothed jaws. It was not a dinosaur. It was related to crocodylomorphs, which include living crocs. At 20" long and 900 lbs, Prestosuchus was a formidable predator that inhabited modern-day Brazil 210 million years ago.

Liparini & Schultz argue that exceptionally sized fossil material, assignable to Prestosuchus chiniquensis, indicate large individuals grew to ~7 meters in length. So if Decuriasuchus quartacolonia was a junior synonym, and gregarious.
