… ideas about what is native, or natural, or appropriate. And we would focus our closest attention on diversity of relationships 3/3
.
How else might #queerecologies #transecologies shape how we think about #conservation, #rewilding, and #habitatrestoration?

Last year, I wrote an essay titled 'Queer Ecologies Without Nature' on this very issue in the representations of taxidermy dioramas in natural history museums.

Like it or not, nature is queer...

It’s been a looong gestation but my graphic article on the significance of #queerecologies for #criticalgeography is finally in production. Trying to stay patient with the process and looking forward very much to finally sharing it with the world!

Trialled my first #queerecologies #transecologies #drawing workshop last week, on a stunning beach in Pembrokeshire. Exploring #edgeeffects, #liminality and #negativespaces. A triad of #oystercatchers turned up just as we were wrapping up, to add their queer blessing to the day

The Queer Fatality of Norwegian Nature – Deshima
This contribution explores the novels Footsteps of Fate (Noodlot, published 1890) by Dutch author Louis Couperus and Monsieur Antinoüs et Madame Sapho (published 1899) by French writer Luis d’Herdy [a pseudonym for Louis Didier], together with the pseudonymously published German short story “Suicide” (“Freitod,” published 1924). In these texts, continental ideas of societal decadence meet a Norwegian landscape conceived as sublime and powerful. While Couperus constructs a fatalist plot in keeping with degeneration theory, d’Herdy treats derogatory conceptions of homosexuality in ludic ways. In the short story, the masculinist ideology of the interwar Männerbund is tied to an idea of the sublime and ultra-vital North, demonstrating how how ideas of the sublime North could undergird a celebration of male same-sex desire, albeit with misogynist and elitist aspects.
