Alan was the last Member Nominated Candidate elected to the #Nationwide #BuildingSociety Board in 2005, ending more than 40 years of continuous Member representation. The #QuickVote followed the next year. (Nominations had already been made 5x harder in 2000.)

But there’s the circular problem.
If a #BuildingSociety designs its own voting process, and #Members can only approve rule changes through that same process (which leverages the #quickvote - 87% of #Nationwide members used the QV last year), who scrutinises whether the process itself is fair?

I care about democracy and good governance, member representation and accountability.

BUT don't use the QuickVote if you want to ensure that an actual Nationwide Member gets a seat on the Board.

The Chair is set up as the default Appointed Representative.
If a Member leaves an item blank, the Chair votes at his discretion on that item.
So an abstention really means a vote aligned to the #Board recommendations.
