"[On Orange Shirt Day] Theorized best by scholar Audra Simpson, our arguments about real anger, real frustration, and real need to identify and reject colonialism in all its forms can be pre-emptively framed in an affective performance of sorrow, contrition, and moving on."

Not sure that the word “independent” would have had much meaning at that time. You didn’t reject the plain word of scripture without being up for the high jump. It’s been a while since I read Lattis on Clavius however, I remember being impressed with his fair-mindedness!

Get ready, America. The groundwork is being laid to steal the midterms. Fire officials who would reject unconstitutional actions. Now they're hiring racist ICE officials and loyalists. He knows that after the midterms, he'll be impeached.

The older term for a lot of those people (though NOT all of them), "sedevacantist", would be even more inside-baseball to them. As I indicated above, it refers to people who not only reject Vatican II and anything since, but believe that every Pope since Pius XII (died 1958 and...

Again: I am genuinely fascinated with a particular type of liberals—many of whom live amongst us on here—who earnestly believes the only path to overtly leftist policies like Court Reform will happen through the continuous support of Reasonable Centrists™️ who quite overtly reject all of this.
Hey @politico.com can you explain why @thirdway.bsky.social is the source for what the Democrats' SCOTUS platform will be, when they don't even have the word "Democrat" in their name and routinely diss the party?

I'll wait.

And in fact, they can't actually reject difference -- you can't choose what you believe to be true. So instead they fall into a state of discordance where they believe a thing that they don't want to believe, and they get hysteric if their attention is drawn to it.

The idea that that that difference ought to be overcome, that the higher ought to destroy the difference itself through elevation of the lower (not a fixed relation of dependence, a full negation), never crosses their mind, and can't so long as they seek to reject difference.

From these premises, which they don't know they hold, they come to abhorrent conclusions when present with any meaningful vertical difference. Finding their conclusions abhorrent, they reject the only aspect of this process they notice -- the idea of one thing being superior to another.

Here’s how it’s supposed to work: if the President wants to cancel funding Congress already approved, he sends Congress a request. Congress has 45 days to approve or reject that request. If Congress says no, the President has no choice but to release it.

If the concept of Rights stands for anything it's that a person can't be summarily rendered out of the country and into torture—and the right-wing justices don't just reject this, they perceive the lower federal courts who *do* believe in Rights as engaged in a sort of rebellion against them
As Chris said, SCOTUS is hardly alone or even first its responsibility for yesterday’s horror, but they took affirmative & highly unusual steps to open the door

They’ve gone beyond standing aside, and moved to actively abusing the shadow docket—it makes them much more than complicit
It's hard to fathom that, let alone be OK with the fact that, the six people who allowed tonight to happen will start hearing cases next week, the outcome of which will affect us all.

Exactly. Transparency lowers the cost of asking, “Why should I trust this?”

When evidence stays visible, people can question the output without having to reject the entire system. That makes healthy skepticism part of adoption rather than resistance to it.
