Really liked this neat blog post by Alexander Grupe about why Amiga ProTracker sometimes displays stale data from previous patterns at its highest playback speed. Thanks, RSS feed!

Image from the article. Two views of the main note entry and playback head part of ProTracker on two successive screen frames at maximum speed, so that one row is advanced per frame. It's running on real hardware. The pre-rendered pattern data ahead of the fancy playback bar is stale in the first pic, but has been updated in the second. The article goes into why and how it does the pre-rendering (font rendering = slow on an A500, basically, but drawing a bitplane from chip ram = fast). I always liked the way it rendered the patterns back in the day, and wondered how it drew them. And now I know, more than I'll ever need practically. Yay!

Anyone know #FORTRAN ? #Retrocompting
A photo of a vintage 1970s-style mini computer system on display in a museum. The setup includes two tall metal cabinets. The left cabinet houses various components such as switches, circuit boards, and a control panel with orange toggle switches and indicator lights. A sign at the top describes it as a "Mini Computer System – 1970s style," noting its use in atomic research. The right cabinet contains large reel-to-reel magnetic tape drives used for data storage, with visible cables and connectors at the bottom. Both units represent early computing technology.

I recently hacked #Elite on the #Acorn #Archimedes to send scores to a live scoreboard across an #Econet network.

I've just published a short article that explains how I did this.

I hope you like it!

A customer decided to give me over 200 floppy disks. Over half have data and about 80 brand new still in their shrink wrap which is super cool.

Gonna need to get a usb floppy drive to see if any have data that isn’t archived yet, I doubt it but never hurts to check!!

I was looking for information on how to open a #Sony #MPF52A floppy drive for my #VintageApple #PowerMac 7100/80.

Couldn’t find any.

So I made a short video of me fumbling around trying to open my drive so you don't have to.
