#salpingectomy
Thank you!! I have a history of painful periods and PMDD issues and PCOS. I don't think it's ever been written down but my doctor has always had my back and I'm sure she can think of something or I can. It's good to know Bilateral salpingectomy can be covered if a hysterectomy is a no go.

Omg I looked and the ACA says a Bilateral salpingectomy should be 100% covered by my insurance in theory. I have so much hope!!! Thank you! Ilysm

Just dropped off @redsage.bsky.social at UCSF Mission Bay for a laparoscopic (we hope) hysterectomy and oophorectomy following up on the emergency salpingo-oophorectomy and salpingectomy two ago (after which patholgy found remains of small granulosa cell tumor in the detritus of their left ovary.

As a former medical transcriptionist, I am appalled by what AI did in transcribing this interview. These are the words it inserted instead of the correct term, salpingectomy, which means removal of the fallopian tubes.

Forever and ever grateful for the lovers in my life. Thank you for caring 💖 I had a laproscopy for a bilateral salpingectomy and to search for endometriosis. I am sterilized and they didn't find any endo- though the search for answers to my symptoms continues, my sluttiness is only leveling up! 💦

meanwhile, even if a woman can convince a doctor to perform a bilateral salpingectomy, it involves full anesthesia, can require an overnight stay at the hospital, and takes at least a week to recover from, sometimes 2. and that's assuming nothing goes wrong with either the anesthesia or the surgery

3/ This is why research matters

We now know: most ovarian cancers start in the fallopian tubes.

🆕‼️ ACOG recommends considering fallopian tube removal (“salpingectomy”) during *any* abdominal surgery in ppl who don’t want future pregnancy

Hopefully, this prevents ovarian cancers and saves lives

The new recommendations make the procedure routine for any gynecologic surgery that would otherwise prevent future fertility.

I had three of those in the space of six months or so. Finally had a hysterectomy, salpingectomy, and oophorectomy -- took out all the plumbing.

How do we turn opportunistic salpingectomy into something patients can actually choose?

I just want to say that, if you want birth control & absolutely do not plan to ever have (more) kids, sterilization is covered for free under ACA. Bilateral salpingectomy removes only fallopian tubes, leaving ovaries & uterus intact. May cut risk for ovarian cancer, too.
After reporter @julialurie.bsky.social had her IUD removed, she felt calmer and happier than she’d felt in years. She started to wonder: What do we know about how hormonal birth control affects mood?

I did this surgery (bilateral salpingectomy, or removal of both fallopian tubes) last year as part of my endometrosis care plan and no regrets.

What's bilateral salpingectomy? .3.
September 15, 2026 at 6:44 AM
A bilateral salpingectomy sounds really good right about now. I don't want babies but my OCD pumps my brain full of intrusive thoughts about pregnancy if I even have the slightest modicum of thought about sex.

Before our Gilead, I survived an ectopic pregnancy thx to my Dr's quick decisive action. He didn't wait to ask anyone's permission, barely mine. He explained in no uncertain terms I needed a Salpingectomy STAT.

Never did I ever think of it as or associate it with 'abortion'... until Republicans!

Why not go full send with a double salpingectomy? Beyond birht control, it greatly reduces the chance of ovarian cancer

I would argue that ectopic pregnancy isn't rare. This recent review in the @nejm.org puts the prevalence at 2 % of pregnancies in the USA.

This is very concerning - #ObGynSky + #MedSky + #ReproSky.

Is it illegal for women of childbearing years to get an elective bilateral salpingectomy? That's the only way to protect a woman's right to life in Indiana, apparently.

And conservatives wonder why the national birth rate has dropped significantly. It might be because they trying to KILL WOMEN.
September 3, 2026 at 12:37 AM
it was a laproscopic bilateral salpingectomy aka tube removal so no hormones affected!! I do still have periods but they've always been OK for me :3
September 2, 2026 at 5:08 PM
I'm seriously considering this. It's covered as preventive care (permanent birth control) by insr w/very rare exceptions, no kids, laporascopic = minimal recovery time, no early menopause & an 80% reduced risk? Looking like a pretty sweet deal from over here, ngl.

R/Childfree is gold mine of info.

health-related post

I debated posting about this given my general lack of activity here, but I guess it helps me to voice my thoughts into ether when it is something significant in my life.

I had a salpingectomy (sterilization) last thursday, which is something I've wanted for a very long time --
