Stand Up For Science Founder & CEO Colette Delawalla states three demands:

1. Remove RFK Jr.

2. Reinstate the American Dream of Science.

3. Science should be driven by scientists not political appointees.

“Science has no passport, no gender, no ethnicity, no political party.”

EC President Ursula von der Leyen, announcing a €500M initiative to attract top global talent.

In a fractured world, science remains a unifying force – rooted in diversity, driven by curiosity, and shared by all humanity.

NASA science is usually strongly driven by peer review & community-derived priorities. That's how we (as a country) know we're investing in "great science." That includes basic & applied research. Dictates coming down from the administration, bypassing that process, are not how we do "great science"
They keep saying (and Isaacman just repeated it) "lots of great science" but I don't see basic research.

Will NASA Science Mission Directorate survive?

To those still complaining about Artemis 2:

We spend 100× more on killing people for oil profits, but yeah, NASA’s the problem. 🤦🏽‍♀️

NASA: $25B
Defense: $901B
That’s 36 NASAs.

Space programs have driven major advancements in science, medicine, and technology, real benefits for humanity.

Decisions on this are not being driven by the science, at all. It's wholly ideological.

Just misread "curiosity driven science" as "cosplay driven science" and had a moment of confusion. What have you people done to my brain?

More than 420 anti-science bills attacking longstanding public health protections – vaccines, milk safety and fluoride – have been introduced in statehouses across the U.S. this year, part of an organized, politically savvy campaign to enshrine a conspiracy theory-driven agenda into law.

Funders and universities are you watching...???
Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel – awarded the 2026 medicine prize – discovered a remarkable protein, channelrhodopsin, in a single-celled alga.

Hegemann wondered how Chlamydomonas, a single-celled alga, is able to swim towards a light source.

Our federal science funding agencies were designed to support science that is vetted and driven by scientists with a Congressional mandate to be for the public good. The OMB's proposed changes would replace that system with one driven by partisan cronies and special interests. 15/n

This is bad journalism.

It cannot be overstated how much harm has been caused by lumping "LLM driven toxic bullshit" in with the traditional understanding of AI as a computer science discipline.

The tools and techniques described in this article have nothing to do with LLM-based systems.

But we didn’t get that field. Instead we got the fields of obstetrics and gynecology driven by man “science.”

A field based on man “science” like “women are just lying when they say they feel pain when we take a hole punch to their cervix.”

We funded research on mis/disinformation. For ex: how misinformation about science & medicine spreads in Black communities. The researchers were developing community-driven strategies for combatting misinformation & low trust in science & medicine. 2/

If US politicians will decide what science is worth funding, this signals the end of genuine, curiosity-driven science & free equiry

The collapse of curiosity driven research has occurred in STEM too. Everything has to be outcomes focused - cure disease, grow better crops, etc. But so much of what humanity has discovered is from "basic" curiosity-driven science. I'm hugely in favor of funding curiosity in every discipline.

The science is unequivocal. From climate change to mass extinction, human-driven ecological destruction is accelerating. Dismissing this isn't skepticism; it's rejecting a mountain of evidence from every field of earth science.

I don’t have words for what’s happening to my friends and colleagues at NOAA right now… absolutely reckless destruction of one of the world’s premier science-driven, public-serving organizations.

People are shocked that (as a person with a genetics degree) I am insanely sceptical about all DNA harvesting organisations, whether clearly profit driven and science-lite ("find your ancestry") or those claiming to be science-driven and NHS-affiliated. But I keep getting my opinion validated :/
For 17 years, UK Biobank promised that "insurance companies...will not be given any individual’s information, samples or test results”.

Now an investigation reveals they have repeatedly shared data with insurance companies.

A shocking breech of trust.
