Yup. Our foundation donates locally, but what it's doing fundamentally is adding a bit of spackle to the gaps. If you widen the gaps, the spackle can't suddenly act as structural support. That's what functional government is for.
Study after study after study has confirmed that charitable giving not only doesn't help nearly as many people as national/state safety net programs, charitable aid isn't as reliable as is aid coming through government-run programs. So many boomer woes come from "tradition" and "family values" as spackle over cruel abusive self-excusing behavior. Now they're upset because the spackle isn't doing what it said on the tin.
They expect their kids to tank years of abuse, but can't tank hours of therapy or even minutes of remorse.
