In the 80s, a big landslide near the German town of Mössingen led to the exposure of a profile of Upper Jurassic marine carbonates. It shows the succession from the marl-dominated Impressamergel Formation to the limestone-dominated Wohlgeschichtete Kalke Formation. #geology #Geologie #stratigraphy 🧪

Reposting to #Strataday because Straturday is just men posing with guitars.
#Straturday steeply dipping Mid-Silurian clastics and volcaniclastics at Marloes Sands, Pembrokeshire, Wales. If you look closely, you can see wave ripples on the exposed bedding plane indicating shallow water deposition. Some horizons are highly fossiliferous. #Geology

It's #Strataday! For this week, I've chosen early #Silurian (~430 MYA) dolostones (of the Goat Island/Eramosa fms) that form the famous erosional #seastacks on Flowerpot Island, Fathom Five National Park, at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula, #Ontario 🇨🇦 #Canada 🇨🇦

Kimmeridge on Sunday. Went for a relaxing walk and bumped into Steve Etches from #theetchescollection before his team lugged another interesting fossil around the cliff.
Never a dull moment there.

Living in a London Chalk quarry! Park Hill Chalk pit in Carshalton. This flinty chalk was burned for lime and knapped flints were used to face nearby cottages. More at londongeopartnership.org.uk/wp/wp-conten...

A Devonian bioherm from Alpena, Michigan. Most of the layers are flat, but the middle is bulged where a Devonian coral reef flourished. Lots of nice crinoids come from this layer also.

What do you see here? A cliff, Rocks?
I see a shallowing upwards profile of offshore muds to lower shoreface silts, abruptly overlain by middle to upper shoreface sandstones incised by fluvial cross bedded sandstones. These are Upper Cretaceous shoreface sequences

For #Strataday, please consider this outcrop of graded bedding in (cleaved) Martinsburg Formation, late Ordovician turbidites shed into the Appalachian Basin as a result of Taconian mountain-building to the east. ⚒️
