Mating pair of Galeruca tanaceti beetles, West Monkseaton, Thursday. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a gravid beetle before

Grantchester Field Studies: 26th April.
Lots of Tortoise beetles were found (Cassida vibex). The fierst clue was in the small round holes in the Knapweed leaves. A bit of searching and we began to find these green camouflage experts. #ukbeetles

Another 2 species of Pterostichus ground beetle are the Black Clock Beetle , Pterostichus madidus, and the Great Blackclock ,Pterostichus niger. Like most other Pterostichus species they eat slugs as well as insects and plant material.

A quite common predator in wet environments is the Rain beetle , Pterostichus melanarius, one of the ground beetles. It feeds on insects as well as plants but prefers slugs.

My SECOND stag beetle of 2025, albeit this time a Lesser stag, and again it's a casualty of human traffic. Dying, after being stepped on on a path. #ukbeetles #stagbeetle

I’m looking for help with this Rove Beetle identity. Is it Megalinus glabratus? I’m struggling to find info on aging and gender effects on colour.

We found this very tiny, very pretty Weevil at RSPB Ham Wall on our recent visit there. I think it is a Willow Catkin Weevil, Dorytomus taeniatus - there were lots of Willows around, but I’m always happy to be corrected! #WeevilWednesday #UKBeetles
