Abigail stopped noticing the passage of time, conciseness sinking deeper into the meditative trance. “Feel the universe…” her mind repeatedly whispered. Shards of light pricked into the darkness, landing in her hands, fluttering off as fast as they came. “Light the way…” She gave chase, leaping into the air. Cradling them, she noted the tingle of her soul intertwining, resonating with the vibrant energy; yet they were drained. She released them. “I’m sorry.”

The three thaulms continued their fight against the machines, the ebb and flow of combat scoring buildings. A Geilet exploded from behind; a second one drawing attention to the waves. The Capilupus sped over the water, each step taken at top speed over the rapidly freezing path. Abigail grit her teeth as impacts rattled her controls, armor indicators fading into the yellow. Her grip tightened as the controls wished to rock; she needed to endure it. Another deep breath, constant mana usage wearing at her energy. A flurry of hand motions disengaged the servo lock as she neared the shore. From the hunched position, the walker’s weapons sans mana projector angled up. Lasers sent a Geilet careening mid-jump without a leg while a burst from her autocannon and missiles each cored a Tiapol unluckily still dazed.

She gulped, nodding. “Abigail Eras, uh, Ready for laun-'' The chime played and before anything else registered in her mind, she was being thrown screaming forward, her hands white knuckling on her controls, grabbing for dear life as the g-forces crunched her unprepared body into her seat. The Capilupus passed through the energy barrier before the indents catapulted the machine into the violet sky.

The beam streaked across the plain, the pastel blue energy breaking off the arm the thaulm had attempted to use as a shield before transmuting into ice crystals all over its body. Abigail kept the energy flowing as the beast leaped at her, claw outstretched. It slowed as ice kept flowing outward, the nails stopping millimeters away from the cockpit glass as the machine went rigid. With adrenaline at max, she lets the servos in the autocannon arm align with the enemy cockpit. The forest echoed with the weapon’s thundering report; half of the remaining ammo spent.

You two look cool in them." Both women shared an internal facepalm; the awkwardness returning their stride.while Lios ribbed Fera. “Last question; what were those devices on your arms?”. The callers stopped at a door, suits blinking off their bodies and returning them to casual attire.

It was the end of the day when the trio met in Fera’s room. “Okay, let me start with basics,” she began, magic bark growing over arms. “Magic is a universal energy field that anyone can use.” “Anyone?” Abigail echoed. “You've already shaped it!” Lios answered. “The projector uses your will to shape the bolts.” “Oh. It's more than a laser…” “You need to have an awakening to channel it yourself,” Fera continued. “That’s also how you find what paths call to you.” Abigail went to speak, but yelped when the half-doe lit a fireball in the off hand. “The majority of mages aren't limited to using one kind of magic, just those who've awakened under the worst of circumstances.” Lios nodded. “Yep, a tragic awakening can totally limit what magic you can use. I would know.”

She jumped at the last second, twisting and slicing the massive crystal in twain before landing on a talon with a bow. “And that,” Lios gleed as the water melted on the mat. “Is why we focus on control, not raw power.”

She found theyself rushing through a manifested forest, crashing into a green tree as it coated they body in an emerald green suit. She spun, fluttering leaves becoming lightweight armor panels of a lighter hue over the suit. The final leaf became a ring that snapped into place around the neck. Fera pushed they glasses up with a smirk before leaping, grabbing hold of joysticks mid canopy as Daswolf constructed around they; the weapons and claws deploying to a combat ready state. Concurrently, Lios found herself in a pitch red void. Landing, she spun on her talons, fire erupting from the cut and coating her in a red suit. Six fireballs leapt out of the ground as she stomped. Kicking one with each leg, armor solidified on them before punching the remaining four for the rest of the armor. She leapt, grabbing hold of joysticks mid inferno as Aquila constructed around her; the right arm’s weapon bin opening let the machine grab the extending rifle in one swift motion.

A little late with my snippet from #WolvenConstellation for today. This time we get a little bit anime with some nameless characters on Liyto, and they see what my battlemech derivities are capable of
“Captain! Look out!” It was too late, the Tiapol that landed behind his Hekaiga was far too close for his rifle to swing around in time with the battle damaged servos. He bashed with the shield, the knife pried it out of his hands. He dashed forward, thrusters at max while the knife jabbed into his arm, a wild punch knocking his battered machine back. A beam of green light blared, cutting into his foe; tracing it back led to that strange machine. The knife arm slagged off the already damaged foe, the beams repeating their carnage at the head. He leveled his rifle at the cockpit and fired. “Thank you,” he mentioned to the woman piloting it. “Reinforcements should be here soon. They’ll help us out.” “It’s no problem.” She said, the machine walking off. “Captain,” The subordinate’s weary face looked at him directly. “Were those… actual lasers?” “Had to be.” He replied. “Wasn’t getting a mana signature. IFF reads Midnight Flower though.” “Damn animals hogging all the good stuff.”

“I’ve been here for at least fifteen years.” Robin explained. “The Federation wants to consolidate magic training into the military. Bigger academies can withstand their funding reallocated better, but everyone’s hit hard. Even so, I enjoy working here, in this smaller academy. It feels like I can pass my experience as a retired caller down to others in a way that feels right.” Abigail didn’t mention the audible somberness in her tone. “Here, take them both for free. I don’t mind helping someone who traveled all this way for nothing.”

This is not a drill, I repeat; NOT a drill…” “Geosensors recording another wave of demons, North side!...” “Get me a sitrep!...” “I don’t care about the damn dragoons on the outskirts! Let their magic machines have a playdate for all I care...” “Yatoia, push angles 17 and see what’s coming in the next wave…” “Keep yourself between the imperials and first responders! We need to cover them so that civilians can get to safety...” “Please let my family be safe…” “A wreck just smashed into the outer bridge..” “Oh God, civilians were still there… “Rearm complete Boka, begin taxi to runway 2-7!” The symphony of stalwart panic and terror in everyone’s voice made her regret opening the comms. Even the distraction— armor and internals of machines strewn about the plains, was gruesome.

The three entered an elevator as Fera started again. “But magic in the transformation coats our bodies—” “Like the most badass blanket ever!” Lios interjected. “—To make the suits, then the armor. Then thaulms re-construct around us.” “You know what’s going on?” Abigail wondered. Lios nodded. “Yep! I go ‘Ha! Hiyah!” Fera allowed the woman to feel the smoothness of one panel. “It can’t take more than pistol calibers; it’s mainly to be locked in by the console like a harness.” “You know, so I don’t become a Lios flavored caparrones from G-forces during combat. It tones them down to manageable levels.”

The morning after the invasion of Liyto was permeated with tension, the powers in this world had chosen open conflict once again. While most onboard the Comet were still sleeping, excitement of terror and duty prevailed in the aft bay. The crew was busy unloading Ammo, food, and other miscellaneous items from their pallets carting the smaller boxes off to their destinations. “One thousand years of war…” Abigail breathed, wishing she didn’t look at the bow catapult. Even with their weapons stowed, the 13 meter armored wolf and 9 meter tall sniper eagle; these magical machines taking up mecha bays one and two of the ancient carrier’s through-deck hangar were key in reminding of her displacement

Blocky devices flashed into existence along their left wrists. "Flaming beast born from our shared passion, I call to you through our shared bond! Come to me!..." “Woodland beast born from our shared conviction, I call to you through our shared bond! Come to me…” Fera and Lios performed the chants simultaneously; their devices rearranging their shapes into the heads of a green wolf with antlers and red eagle respectively as they went on. The two friends observing from behind became elated when she flickered a pastel blue, aura gaining opacity with every minute. The swirling universe connected with her, the dancing of magic energies passing through the body and soul exhilarating. She primed it, rapid temperature drop not bothering Abigail as she sent the energy to her hands. “Glaciere.” Despite the spoken word being just that, the energy surged into action like a spell from fantasy stories, her mind morphing the energy into a crystal of ice above her hands. She opened her eyes, her smile bright as the energy passed through her and into the universe proper. “I did it! Oh my god I did magic! I–” The crystal fell to the ground, melting as she faltered with the energy drain. A weakness shot through her as the glowing stopped.

Fedir threw the machine into a kick, impacting on the shoulders of the barghest and twisting the body in with an audible crack coming through his cockpit speakers. The death throes still let the hooves crash onto the ground, one last fire wave now screaming across sandy terrain. His face fell in horror as he saw the target. “No!” Abigail noticed the wave of fire in her peripherals, speeding towards the refinery. She finished off her target as fast as she could, switching to the projector. She fought through the tiredness in her body and reached into the universe as quickly as she could gather. “Glaciere!" It was too late. The ice beam missed, freezing the dirt behind the wave. The magic fire impacted on the first container, starship hydrogen igniting a spectacular chain reaction; a raging inferno soon enveloping the whole complex.

Why isn’t this working!” “What are you doing?” She whirled around, throwing aside loose hair to see Tristan–the ship’s cook, leaning against the gym door, odonata wings at rest. “Since we’re not relocating soon, I've been trying to get that specific magic I used on Ostio again,” Another thrust of the palms. “It doesn't… want… to work!” “You look tired. Come on, food's almost ready.” He stated. “It's war,” His wings buzzed. “The empire won't just give us time to let me get where I should be. Especially if I can bring out a power like that again.” “You're only going to hurt yourself if you think magic is a power to be controlled.” Tristan pointed out. “Take a break, you've earned it anyway.” Abigail huffed as she recognized the weakness flooding her body. “I guess.”

Kani purred as it got acquainted with the Comet's hangar bay later that night. It clucked against the other's sounds, eagerly introducing itself to the other two thaulms. Fedir turned his gaze from the hangar area, Abigail caught on the receiving end of a stern talking to by the tech crew as he moved from earshot. “Thanks again for helping me, Casey.” He held out a hand to the asian woman currently averting her eyes from him. “Yeah. I don’t think I deserve it.” She brushed the hand away. “I saw the person you saved from the fire. Common safety gear isn’t designed with attunements in mind. They’d… we'd rather let people die than spend money for applicable safety gear. I stayed ignorant all this time.” “It was your information that got me away from the militia.” He reminded. “I guess I need to do some soul searching now that I’ve also been terminated.” She said. “My main goal; do better.”
