PHP8.5の正式版がリリースされた。
動作確認にはとりあえず使えるのはベータ版やアルファ版でも同じ…。
そして、まだxdebugがPHP8.5に未対応なので、実質、正式版に差し替えても私にとっては何も変わらない…。
xdebugを使いたい時はまだPHP8.4を使っている。

DDEV supports Xdebug.

Enable it with:
$ ddev xdebug on

PHPStorm works out of the box.

VS Code needs config unless you use the DDEV Manager extension.

Turn off when done:
$ ddev xdebug off

Once https://github.com/php/php-src/pull/19670 gets merged, and the accompanying patch for Xdebug, you will be able to see the intermediate values passing through PHP 8.5's pipes!

Drush 13.3.0 introduced a change to the way it works (for performance reasons) with xDebug - it is disabled by default. To debug Drush commands, the - -xdebug flag must be passed. For example:

drush - -xdebug migrate-import my_migration

💦 two memory leaks, through patches by @nielsdos
↪️ an issue with showing the values of properties with hooks attached
💩 an issue where characters with higher order bits were not displayed when using Xdebug's overridden […]
