1. Zexion
EXTREMELY strong start for the games side of things. it may play like an nes game but it sure aint limited by it! really fun movement and shooting, some powerful upgrades, and genuinely scary moments and bosses! hard recc
heres me fighting the superboss, it was incredibly fun

this was interesting to think about because i feel those who are similar to her in other aspects would clash terribly with her in personality (zexion, vexen, saix, xaldin), she would Not respect axel or xibgar, and she wouldn't have a desire to rebel against xemnas, so that leaves a few remaining

Metroid 1 is one of my all time favorite games and was a major influence when I was making Zexion. So I'm not terribly surprised when people clock similar vibes from it despite it being quite different.
Anyways you should check out Snailiad if you haven't already.

I've "beaten" the game but still gotta try the final boss. nevertheless, i think this is hands down the best game i've played this year. if you like 2D action or metroid in any capacity you owe it to yourself to give Zexion a shot.

Not diminishing that there’s probably some good stuff there but a lot of the indie “Metroidvanias” I’ve played haven’t really been actually like 2D Metroid or Igavania with the exception of like Zexion or Acrolyte or something.

Zexion is probably my favorite metroidvania in 10+ years
I can't point to any single reason it's so good, it's not doing anything revolutionary it's really just got every aspect of the genre tuned perfectly and has all the QOL improvements you could want. Give it a shot!

i am not one to bash my head against a wall. if i know im not gonna have fun trying something, im getting the hell out of there if i have the option to lmao. zexion is really hard, but it doesnt expect you to spend hours learning absurdly precise gigabosses even though you technically can

something ive noticed about zexion that i really like is that it really encourages you to double back and try new things.
i kept going on what i felt was the intended path, and i got walled by stuff i thought was way too hard. so i go secret hunting and find story stuff thats way more manageable
