The wrong decisions on Rosebank, Heathrow expansion, heat pumps and EV targets would result in getting on for half a billion extra tonnes of CO2 being added to the atmosphere

The name of the POUM, the Marxist anti-Stalinist militia with which Orwell fought on the Aragón front, inscribed by some militia fighter in 1936-37 on the stone of this old farm hut, all of those years ago. Near Tierz, Huesca.

I also recall your story about how your curiosity about class/Marxism was sparked/spurred by listening to your sibling’s/friends’ (?) punk records, which really resonated and stuck with me.

As a working-class* origins academic myself, I can relate to this thread! (*No history of higher education in the family, parents' jobs at the working-class end of Erik Wright's 'contradictory class locations'.)

I remember the first time I realized there might be an issue. I was in @stuartgwhite.bsky.social’s excellent seminar on Marxism. We were discussing how to define class. And it struck me that most of my peers had never actually spent time with truck drivers, millwrights and small appliance repairmen.
Today is Intersex Awareness Day. I am intersex – and did not find out until I was 26!

Intersex people are also impacted by the decision in FWS, but this is much less talked about. Intersex people continue to be subjected to non-consensual medical interventions.

Intersex rights are human rights.
Bolsonaro's loss is not just a loss for Bolsonaro.
It's a loss for Trump.
For Musk.
For Milei.
For Netanyahu.
For Farage.
For Meta and Zuckerberg.
For the meat barons, the fossil fuel corporations, and the rest of the neocolonial looters.
And it is a massive win for humanity and the living planet.

I have never seen anything like it. I have a few friends there and all I heard the day after the 1st round was despair. Then - a day later - they said “we can still do this”, they went to work at the grassroots, and they never ever stopped till it was done. They are my heroes.
Genuinely I don't know that it comes across to people who haven't been here to watch how almost unbelievable this was, just people taking something that looked impossible and dragging it kicking and screaming all the way to inevitability.
Many comments on the great election victories in Brazil and Serbia state that the authorian right is in decline or that voters have rejected far-right authoritarianism. That is a wrong interpretation of what happened. Progressive movements mobilized and beat the authoritarian right. That's different
Seeing the world rejecting fascism country by country is giving me hope. Nothing is inevitable. Doom is a luxury. People in Serbia, Brazil got out and did the unglamorous work of organising.
None of us should forget this. Meta should be subjected to corporate death penalty and permanently broken up into small pieces.
I will not forget that Zuckerberg and Facebook shut down the accounts of the most popular presidential candidate in one of the largest democracies in the world, and he was elected anyway

Both of these results today go to show just how antifascists can mobilise.

Fascists have an entire apparatus to make their victory feel inevitable. It is not.

To crush hope. But hope lives on whilst we keep it alive.
Serbia: The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS-EPP) has admitted defeat in today's parliamentary elections. The Student List (SL-*) has won a majority of votes.
