I’m jealous of Morgan Freeman. Not knowing who Pat McAfee is sounds like bliss.

Now it’s “assimilation/culture” or whatever argument it takes to get to it the bottom line is always “we need this to be overwhelmingly White or else something is terribly, horribly wrong” and now that it’s been exposed for the 8,000,000th time let’s just put this to bed, ok?

Just like the racism that showed up again regarding the University of Texas- Austin this last week it’s an unfriendly reminder that folks have never needed grades, test scores, percentiles, or class rank to say any of their racist garbage. It has absolutely never been about “merit” so stop it.

I am too old to remember standardized test scores and percentiles. Yet it never fails that there is a large group of people, academics included, who need this information. Then I remember that (despite my advanced age) I was admitted to graduate school after affirmative action’s end, so now what?
No responsible news outlet should go to the White House as long as this ban on their colleagues is in effect. It’s time for big media to show some backbone.

Also, any apologies about that embarrassing WHCA dinner yukking it up with Trump and his apparatchiks?

CNN and MS NOW Reporters Barred From White House After Trump Announces Ban
The prohibition on certain journalists was a stark escalation in President Trump’s war on the media, and will probably face a legal challenge.

MS NOW and CNN journalists were turned away from the White House this morning following Trump's announcement that he was banning several media outlets.

We told everyone that programming wasn't the hard part, but no one believed us.

The reason LLMs can excrete sort-of-okay code is that sort-of-okay code has been a commodity good for 20+ years. Then, just like now, the bottleneck was understanding what people actually want.

What I find most interesting is that in nearly every general education curriculum you’re offered a wide range of courses from a number of disciplines to fulfill requirements. These centers have little depth, so they are significantly and intellectually more restrictive than anything else on campus

You sure you’re not in South Bend? 🤣😂

Case in point…

This strategy has a pretty good track record, to be honest….
“New students enrolling at the University of Texas at Austin can no longer major in studies focusing on Africans and the African diaspora, Mexican Americans and Latinos, or women and gender.”

Puts a lot of “regain trust” rhetoric into proper relief.
Majors related to race, gender cut at University of Texas
The University of Texas at Austin rejected a department’s plan to keep the majors, a decision that came without public knowledge, an interim department chair told faculty.

ESPN has become unwatchable. As a serious college football fan this pains me deeply. I do not know any sports fan who enjoys seeing McAfee or values his commentary, and he’s on everything at this point. ABC/ESPN does not know their audience, and they are turning people off.
ESPN is trash and unwatchable. That baseball broadcast last night was disgraceful. The anti-Mets bias was off the charts. I am not wrong about this. Shitty baseball coverage and the clown McAfee on virtually every show has ruined ESPN. It has officially jumped the shark. Shut it down.

This may be more related to international student visa policy. Many MA economics programs have enrollment that is disproportionately non-US students.

What Republicans are betting on at this point is that voters will be very, very angry about inflation and rather than blame GOP policy they’ll…well…blame transgender people, immigrants, and DEI. It’s a long shot for sure, but we can’t underestimate the effect of marginalized scapegoats on voters…

FROM ESPN: Kyrie Irving has offered to pay Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair's $11,941 fine for having the name of a 5-year-old Palestinian girl killed in Gaza in January. The child’s name was written on his eye black during Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills. Nice gesture.

You either root out the White Nationalists from your party or you are rooting for them. Bo French has been endorsed by the Texas GOP establishment, and they’re not cutting ties. They are rooting for him.

Do with that what you will…

it's actually insane how terrible AI executives like Alex Karp here are marketing their products. he sounds like a complete lunatic on CNBC right now.

Eventually people will need to wrestle with the fact that White Supremacy is not a losing political strategy. It’s not even exceptional, according to the media. Therefore we’re fixated on “too far left” Democrats because White Nationalism is inherently normalized in American politics.
The GOP has collapsed so far into far right authoritarianism that it has lost <checks notes> Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, Liz Cheney, George Will, & Bill Kristol, & yet somehow our National Conversation™️ remains focused disproportionately on whether Democrats are veering too far left into socialism 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Anyway, to my colleagues in politically maligned but in-demand disciplines, I know it is hard to be this hot. All the weird dudes hate us and the other girlies want to be us.

Stay hot, anyway. Stay hot, my friends.
