Short film script call out.

Looking for erotic/sexy thrillers.

Ideally akin to The Housemaid rather than 365 Days. A nice location, handful of characters etc. Nothing that requires a super high budget for a short.

Under 15 pages would be preferable.

Sky's new docudrama The Wargame saying the show contains AI generated action scenes. Get to fuck with that shit. I was already unsure about watching due to the questionable casting, but the AI factor easily makes for a quick turn off.

Click the link to view the poster for Each Coming Night. A short I produced earlier in the year. We've been trying to get this made since October '22. And this weekend we're having our cast and crew screening!

"The original Treasure Island films, with greatest, deepest respect, were terrible, and were always made for kids, with a lot of "arrghh me hearties" and eating the fucking scenery. This is not going to be like that."

Ridley Scott speaking to Empire. Making a no fun/adult take on Treasure Island.
Owen Cooper is being eyed to star in Ridley Scott's ‘TREASURE ISLAND’ alongside Hugh Jackman.

In Star Trek people often complain that replicated food is not as good as naturally produced food, which is weird when replicators are presumably using the same technology as transporters, which can perfectly replicate Spock every time. But is Spock getting less flavoursome over time? In this essay,

I strongly second this. Just finished the novel, and I think it's the best ultra-dark L.A. noir since peak '80s-'90s James Ellroy. The plotting is sensational; the writing is electric.
My appetite for ultra nihilistic modern noir isn’t what it used to be, but Jordan Harper’s A Violent Masterpiece has such incredible prose, I got sucked right in and read the whole thing in a rush.

If you have soft spot for teen dramas/coming of age stories, I highly recommend Sterling Point on Amazon. Created by Megan Park (writer/director of My Old Ass) and produced by Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage (The OC). It has a wonderful blend of drama and comedy that evokes the old WB shows.

I know the context is that there was a test screening and that’s where it came from (also; fuck test screenings) but given that pretty much every straight woman I know is foaming at the mouth to watch Olivia Coleman get pounded by a sentient wicker basket maybe just let the material speak for itself
‘ONE NIGHT ONLY’ director Will Gluck says they cut out “so much nudity” from the film because he thinks audiences dislike sex on screen.

“Whenever people now see nudity or very adult situations in a big theater, they get uncomfortable.”

I highly recommend this brilliant novel. It picks up story threads from his previous novel Everybody Knows, but it works equally well as a standalone thriller. But this feels like Harper's Empire Strikes Back. Not since Don Winslow's cartel trilogy have I wanted the next instalment so badly.

If you're in the UK and access Paramount+ through Sky/Now TV, you actually get to watch episode 3 instead. And if you access it through AppleTV, you get to watch episode 4.
My review of this week's Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, a haunted house story with some interesting ideas it repeats a few too many times:

But arts and drama aren’t MANLY jobs like British Steel and Jaguar Land Rover. They can’t do a photoshoot in a hard hat at RADA
British drama school training is the envy of the world and, as more film + TV jobs are moving to the UK, our drama schools are the backbone of a global industry. These cuts are artistic vandalism and economic stupidity.

So dumb. If the creative arts aren't a priority, then they'll run out of things to offer to the AI companies.

Driver's Ed just dropped on Amazon. Plays very much like a Gen Z take on Road Trip. And you can tell it's Gen Z cos there's a scene where 3 characters discuss how environmentally friendly their car is... as opposed to having a scene where Stifler gets his prostate milked.

Look, if you really need to squeeze money that badly, just hire a cheaper CEO and elimate executive bonuses. That's a bigger windfall than nickel and diming the lower ranks and telling everyone to reuse paper clips and post-its.
I'm not saying there's NO role for AI in the filmmaking process. But if the redundancy you're talking about eliminating is human taste, experience and creativity, you're just ignorant of what the process actually is in creative terms, and you just want to curry favor with the money people.

I haven’t seen the movie, so this is not a comment on the quality of the movie; but I don’t have any interest in seeing a Robin Hood movie where the marketing tagline is that Robin Hood wasn’t a hero. It’s like marketing cheesecake by saying “this cheesecake is no dessert”
