Things I was frightened of as a child:
Archangel Gabriel blowing his horn on Judgement Day.
Snakes under the bed.
The back stairs at my convent school.
Sister Agnes (of above convent).
My teeth falling out.
Sleeping with my back to a door or window.
Things I was frightened of as a child (in ascending order of likelihood of encounter):
The monster under the bed
The monster in the loo Mushrooms
Quicksand
The Bermuda Triangle
The Green Death
Things I was frightened of as a child:

Spontaneous combustion
Fires generally
Ghosts generally
Church bells moving (this lingers)
Death generally
Appendicitis and meningitis
Watership Down Black Rabbit
Telly blowing up during thunderstorm
Quicksand

Last episodeof the season and I think it's the one I'm most proud of. Origin Story in its most distilled form: telling a tight, thrilling story of the past which equips us to understand the present.
The Luddites are the subject of our season finale. The spectre of AI coming for our jobs makes Luddite rebellion feel surprisingly relevant today. Join @dorianlynskey.bsky.social and @iandunt.bsky.social as they search for the true history of the Luddites.

Saw this ad for a goat on Facebook. It’s perhaps the greatest advert I’ve ever read. It’s just superb.

Today I have sat in light rain drinking coffee, worn jeans and a cardi, managed a bit of gardening that wasn’t watering, had a hot meal for lunch, and felt OK.

Today, the Sandbach Music Festival has broken out at the rugby club next door.

I'd like to thank the participants for bravely having a go, despite clearly having never played any of their instruments before.

And it's a bold artistic choice to depart so radically from established melodic norms.

You know what we don't talk enough about?

Queen & Annie Lennox/David Bowie rehearsing 'Under Pressure' in 1992.

So much going on!

Everyone's clothes, Bowie with a lit cig throughout, where Annie PROPER GOES FOR IT, George Michael singing along in the background. The amazing vocals. Yes, please!
