Honestly a serious proposal for AI regulation would be something like:
1. ban on new gas turbines or other onsite fossil generation.
2. moratorium on new GPU capacity in data centers
3. severe privacy protections, with auditing requirements, for SaaS consumer products
4. ban on chatbot interfaces

I've been hearing for almost a decade about how ML models can somehow "improve themselves". Not only is that ridiculously incorrect, it is a slap in the face to the (often precarious and exploited) workers who do the grinding, miserable work that makes the bullshit slot machine's output so appealing
I'm honestly so sick of constantly saying it's not an algorithmic system really because it's got human-in-the-loop and people being like "but it's automated"

I don’t ever presume that Valve is benevolent or a friend, they’re a private company and they’re here to make money and their curation policy is fraught, but to to their credit they make products people actually wanna use when basically every other American company has forgotten that.

I really want people to think more like organizers.
I'm seeing endless debate, and more than a little conspiracy theorizing, about the motivations behind the big companies' warnings about the danger of AI.
And almost no discussion about how we seize this moment to demand the policies we want.

Okay I went back to the beginning of this series of interviews with the Andor writers, which has driven me insane. The entire S1 Andor writers room was five (5) days of outlining. Tony Gilroy had several backup history references for each plot point in case he got push back for being too political.
“Tony [Gilroy] finally turned to me, and he said, ‘Hey, you just got to stop pitching plot. Plot is bullshit. Plot is what happens when you get the behavior right. Pitch me a line of dialogue, pitch me atmosphere, pitch me something visual. Stop pitching stuff that happens.’” 1/2
