Almost exactly the same issues as with student coursework submissions. What’s worst, imao, is that we now also suspect students who do genuinely good work, of cheating. What it does to trust is the worst.
AI-assisted text is deadly for academic journal editors and reviewers.

I'm detecting a lot more of it recently as an editor. It's still there in the "Frankencitations" and those little linguistic "tells" like "AI is not the cause. It's the symptom of an underlying reality." But it's more, too. 1/

again, i don’t think any of this is necessary. just say that the court was out of bounds, that it may be correct on the definition of “election” but that this technical matter has no bearing on the results of the referendum, which occurred in a free and fair contest.
NEWS --> Top Virginia Dems have decided against exercising a procedural end-run around the State Supreme Court ruling that cost Dems four House seats, the Dem leader of the state senate tells me.

This will anger Dems who wanted an aggressive response.

The state’s Democrats have decided against forcing resignations on the state Supreme Court to preserve their redistricting. Funny how Republicans always find a way, and Democrats don’t.

The "retire all the justices" idea was too cute anyway. There has never been a clearer moment where the state leadership needed to simply say "The courts have registered their opinion and we've noted it and chosen to move forward with the maps that the voters ratified anyway."

The argument goes that America approved his agenda is false. America empowered him to push his agenda through legal Congressional means and that’s it. If he won’t do that, it’s on him not the courts.

Jury nullification is good and it's a good sign for America's path out of authoritarianism that juries are recognizing their power to nullify.

Trump: I’ll be sending the military into U.S. cities.

To go along with that, we live in an era of low trust voters, and they're just going to keep voting out incumbents over and over because they're mad at "The System" and aren't traditional ideological actors. You can't heal America without making people trust the government more.

I honestly think the ongoing effort to whitewash Kirk and treat MAGAism like normal conservative politics is disrespectful to those principled conservatives who have publicly broken with MAGA.
look, it is comforting to think that your political opponents are, at the end of the day, just people like you who really want us all to live together as Americans.

it's just very obviously not *true* in MAGA's case, as you can tell through, well, what they say and do.

Posting a criticism of Charlie Kirk - much less noting something outrageous he himself said - is not “celebrating” his murder. Nor is it condoning his murder. It is simply saying that his political career and legacy are not something to be celebrated. And that is not the same thing at all.

Trump II never even tried to build the mass consent necessary for authoritarian consolidation, they just assumed it was there because they won the popular vote
again we’re seeing how the glide path toward authoritarian overreach here is disrupted by regular people than by big institutions or the powerful people who run them

I love to show up every day for my job, which is standing around holding the front of my tactical vest and getting told to choke to death by thousands of passers-by while 11 of my coworkers handcuff a roofer on his way to work. Every night I drive 80 minutes home, thinking about nothing at all.
