This sort of treatment is just evil. During the course of my doctorate my department has faced two redundancy processes and seen the teaching staff stretched beyond breaking point.
I can't wait to finish this thesis and be an overqualified forklift operator.

Sacking news: I scored 3rd out of 4 and therefore only qualify for a 0.5 post, with no redundancy payment because it's a contract variation rather than a dismissal. My 2.5 colleagues are thankfully therefore OK

I believe that there is some benefit in keeping the United Kingdom together... But at the end of the day that should be up to the people of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Frankly, the way that England has treated these nations I would be flabbergasted if they didn't choose independence.

If politicians can't be trusted to be decent human beings towards trans people, they can't be trusted.

Thinking back on the Reform UK conference, one of the big impressions it left was *cosiness*. This sounds odd given the rhetoric, but it reminded me of some Tory conferences and Labour under Corbyn, where it was often a comfort blanket for members, with no beliefs or failures really challenged.
