They aren’t and haven’t. The problem is, if they respond to 3.4% inflation by reacting worse then voters did to Jimmy Carter, the only viable political position becomes a degree of fiscal hawkery that annihilates all progressive aims. It’s fatal to basically EVERYTHING that requires spending.

Ummm…
If you are a Canadian (or European for that matter) you need to watch Carneys speech in full
There is a lot of ambition being proposed

It may be a shock to some on here, but team UvL have actually thought through potential paths to a different EU-Canada relationship and the reaction from member states is the start of the usual Brussels policy wrangling process.

I genuinely think one thing I'm learning from the Trump II situation is that while it's true the poor don't vote in their interests it turns out neither do the rich. Competent economic stewardship would be better but they massively over value ephemeral stats goods they erroneously believe he grants.
I think the only real lesson I’ve learned about American politics is that rich people will vote in their own interests and poor people won’t

No. This Cory Doctorow post is awful and borders on actual misinformation. The fact that a widely respected voice like him is spreading this kind of false narrative is, again, a giant blaring alarm about the effect the Bluesky info environment is having on people’s brains.

Kindly disagree on this one. In my view, you could go quite far legally with an Associate Agreement based on Art. 217 TFEU.
Still requires unanimous support from member states and political will to go far, but in my view not treaty change or referenda.

A reminder that there is no such thing as "associate membership" of the EU, that to create one would require re-opening the EU treaties, which in turn requires referenda in several countries and probably a decade of haggling.
