Middle-aged and quite strange...a winning combination. Enjoy art, history, music. Natural history too. And cheese. Drink industrial quantities of tea. Will occasionally lose myself in a game. Bad at describing myself. Hi.

Walking around in the bush with my head down again this morning. I’m absolutely in love with the gills on this mushroom. I think it might be a type of oysterling. 🍄🌿

This coming week I'll start sharing my new Guyana photos in earnest, but as usual my BlueSky audiences gets a sneak peek!

Here's a lovely tropical flat snake we found during one of our night walks.

A lifer #butterfly for me today at @tapirvalley.bsky.social, the Zavaleta Glasswing (Godyris zavaleta). These are found mostly in Ecuador and Peru, and this was fun to see in #CostaRica

A favorite from my archive a day: A TEENY-TINY Atheniella. So small my phone camera struggled to focus. Note the pine needles for scale.

They come in pink, yellow, orange, red. I’ve only found pink and I’ve only found three. Different angle below⬇️

This is a painted grasshopper nymph (Poekilocerus pictus). Gorgeous.

Yes, it’s real. I caught and released an adult one of these in Arondizuogu, Nigeria once. 😃 My cousin said it looked like a masquerade and I’ve thought of them like that ever since.

Guess what? Fireworks butt. Here's a tiny planthopper nymph (not sure which family) from Costa Rica, one of several kinds we saw. The fibers are a waxy material; if a predator attacks from behind, they can break off harmlessly and let the nymph escape. Alternatively...Coachella-ready. 🐙🌿 🎆 #insects

Going through some folders of things I made when I was learning 3D modelling. I had some health issues and stopped making things for years, but I'm back at it now. Anyway, I found this. No idea why I made it, but it probably speaks for itself
