Donald Trump defended expanding U.S. data centers and artificial intelligence, but his MAGA supporters rejected his explanations, illustrating growing AI skepticism as a central domestic campaign issue.
From the man who in 2013 said "“Over time, the rise of the Internet will inexorably diminish the role of money in politics". That didn't work out so well. I don't think any of his prognostications about tech have worked out, why should we listen to him on this?

Banning "superintelligent" 🤢 AI plays right into industry rhetoric and keeps the focus off immediate, real world harms such as privacy, bias, and labor. Literally the same name of the silly Bostrom book everyone was reading 12 years ago.

We've already seen that the recent calls by AI industry leaders to ‘pace the frontier’ are insufficient, and their suggestions that we must weaken antitrust protections in order to confront the AI threat are transparently self-serving.

I'm not asking rhetorically. If the goal is to just say "these people are in denial/hoodwinked about AI, but not me!" that's fine. If the goal is to say "sure, there is insane hype about this stuff but you're also misinformed & missing genuine benefits" wouldnt that imply a different comms strategy?
