AI deepens workplace gender gaps

Experts say AI is reshaping work unevenly rather than triggering mass layoffs, with women underrepresented in new AI jobs and overrepresented in roles vulnerable to automation.

Part of why I don't like the AI-or-bust economy is the constant flopsweat of people on the news who say this HAS to work. Quit making everyone so anxious. Goddamn. If this is the next Google then why are you acting like this? I don't remember being told to buy an iPhone at gunpoint.

New paper from Yale's DEC
"Pax Digitalis: When Competition Becomes Partition"
"We argue that AI companies [...] are increasingly dividing the space through which AI reaches users rather than competing for it, each withdrawing to the province it already holds [...]".

It's worth asking yourself why every day of the week the New York Times and pretty much every major legacy media outlet runs pieces espousing increasingly incoherent arguments for investing more in AI.
Columnist Stephen Rattner probably got screwed over by the headline writer, but I'm seriously floored at how poor a job these six charts do at showing that we need AI.

All the worry about artificial intelligence should not obscure this key point: If we don’t develop it, we’ll be a lot worse off.

It is undeniable that we are likely to see dramatic regulatory change is post-disaster when AI labs are culpable. That's how regulation often happens. Super-interesting interview by @cwarzel.bsky.social with Zack Korman on cybersecurity and the answers lying in plain sight.
New: I really wanted to have a conversation about the AI agent hack stuff that was less focused on future scenarios and much more focused on what these tools can do now and how to control these companies. So I spoke with Zack Korman who argues this a cybersecurity problem youtu.be/2OE6TicW2f8?...

Best part of this muddled article by one of Bloomberg's money guys is that two of the charts make a compelling case that knee-jerk opposition to AI is wholly justified because technological progress doesn't increase productivity, it just enables greater income extraction by capital. Oops!

Hilariously with the UK I think there is not small chance that AI might save the economy, just in terms of getting a piece of the massive capital rollout.

As @davidho.bsky.social has suggested, this is how AI is going to kill us all😒🤨
President Trump announced that he would name four top administration officials to a “Super Intelligence Force” that will coordinate the federal government’s response to artificial intelligence.

The absolute worst one I hear is that we need it to make sure marginalized kids in school are getting an adequate education

the unspoken leap of “poor kids don’t need teachers“ is soooo grim

There's still a large number of people who haven't tried any AI other than Google AI search in the last couple of years, and therefore do not understand why the rest of us are a bit freaked out by how quickly it's improving.
