The thing about AI, people make agency errors enough that you have to avoid some common metaphors if your goal is communicating.

In just the last few weeks, I've found multiple instances of heavy, undisclosed AI use in writing in major media outlets, academic research, and public commentary. Once you see it you can't unsee it (especially with @pangram.com).

For more on this trend, see this paper by Cui et al. Here they show that AI assistance in writing cover letters helped with callbacks -- but only for the first couple of months.

The irony is that my Black as hell father, who has worked in IT longer than most tech bros have been alive, says that the reason white people want AI is because it allows them to have slaves.
The "is AI slavery" discourse is exactly what the tech bros want. It doesn't end with fancy autocompletes having human rights. Its logic ends with you having fewer rights. If you believe AI is sentient (it's not) & are down with enslaving it (it's not slavery), then why do human labor rights matter?

This is such important work, and the thing to keep in mind is that when AI people tell you that games will be personalized for you, this is the kind of thing they are more likely to mean.
No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

When the AI bubble pops, we can’t repeat past corporate bail outs. We need to be ready with policies that protect ordinary people and hold tech execs accountable. We also need to talk about nationalizing AI companies — or maybe even abolishing them altogether…

we need an independent agency that can 1) identify, 2) communicate, and 3) contain ai threats.

we don’t have that process.
we don’t even have the beginnings of it.
