Yeah by and large audiobooks were available on CD from a bookshop and only the biggest titles had them available, for £25+

I have a sound byte from @mattdinniman.bsky.social's DCC audiobooks set as a notification sound. New alert shows up on my CrimeRadar app, I hear "System message: Princess Donut has committed ANOTHER ATROCITY," then I open it & the app is like, "Car stolen from East Cass St driveway"

New contracts will all be on the NRM. I have 23 audiobooks in and 33 waiting until the last minute. My box sets earn more with 40% of a credit sale than they would with 50% of the pool royalty. I'll put them in after the Christmas sales rush.

Oh Macleans 🤦🏼‍♀️

“..my sister MayCee and I worked for my mom’s home-cleaning business. We scrubbed toilets while listening to audiobooks and podcasts about psychology, neuroscience and politics.” Because they can’t read or write? She’d have been 17 when Covid hit.

It's the perfect time of year to start this series. Curl up with a cup of cocoa and enjoy! 🎃👻🍁

(the audiobooks are phenomenal as well)

This is also well said. It’s important to remember that audiobooks costing money to make is good/justified (because human labor and talent deserve worth and respect). It just sucks for us indies and small press 😔

I credit him with nothing, but his voice on the radio during his first term was the reason I taught myself to listen to audiobooks, something I'd never previously enjoyed. But I used to always listen to NPR in the car, and his voice made me sick

Love the audiobooks! Hate that I still hear his voice

i had the dramatized audiobooks and i'm an audiobook girlie, but even like that, i just couldn't focus on the plot. i think i saw it as a chore to try and finish them up quickly and didn't sit and try to really enjoy.

This is an example of the promo opportunities page on Authors Republic. It's been so useful for me to get first in series audiobooks into sales/deals - which led to the rest of the series getting a boost.

And as for audiobook sales. It depends on the retailer. Audible/ACX can be $3.50 per sale, but if your book is in their streaming 'Plus' program it can be $0.65 per stream. Selling wide, on the likes of AuthorsRepublic.com authors can get access to library sales, streaming, credit and pool sales.

This is not accurate. I say this as an author with over 50 audiobooks sold on 45+ retailers. The audiobook industry is complex and that post is a gross simplification. The cost of an audiobook depends on the wordcount, and whether the author chose to a pay Per Finished Hour, Royalty Share+, or RS.

Spotify basically drained Findaway of all of it's talent, sold us out by letting Apple train their AI on our audiobooks, and then they sold Findaway back to the dudes who originally owned it. Spotify set up their own audiobooks portal and Findaway rebranded as InAudio. Too much fuckery for me!

I have over 50 audiobooks, and have a mix of exclusive ACX and non-exclusive that are for sale wide. I would recommend Authors Republic. They have fantastic promotion opportunities each month that InAudio (formerly Findaway) do not offer. I was on FW, but they screwed us over-selling out to Spotify.

I'd keep this house pretty much the way it is because my furniture isn't up to Victorian mansion. The bed could work for naps or a change of scenery or for guests when we both want our own space. I might put a recording studio in the spare room for doing audiobooks/podcasts.

Where possible, Hoopla is always the better option. (They're a service of Midwest Tape, who are very much not owned by private equity -- it's a family company -- and whose business is working with libraries on multimedia offerings.)
