Let's have a talk about all the damn spambots and scams on #AO3 shall we?
This isn't a complaint against AO3 - the archive volunteers are fantastic for helping work these things out. It's a warning and reassurance to other writers, and a reminder for readers whilst we're here. Lets take a look!

Writers: Where do you post your stuff?

I don't have much interest in using FA again, and Weasyl's works well but has limited reach, so I'm checking other options. Newgrounds? My own site of some kind?

It has to be NSFW friendly, but that probably doesn't surprise you 😏

A 5 by 5 bingo grid. The top left features the AO3 logo then the title: 2026 AO3 writer bingo! by Tavylia_Sin See how many you can fill by 2027! The grid is in pink and pale lilac with a darker red for the centre square. The fills are as follows, going from left to right: Top Row Wrote whilst at home Used a beta reader Got a bot/scam comment Wrote 3k words in one day Got writer's block Second Row Dreamed or daydreamed about a WIP Wrote a new topic Made a cursed author's note Wrote for a new fandom Finished a longfic Middle row Felt joy from a kudos email Wrote for an old fandom Free space! Comment/Kudos on at least 12 works! Published with no beta reader Got invested in a new pairing Fourth Row Started a longfic Talked about fanfic with someone irl Wrote whilst away from home Gained a new kink or favourite character Replied to a genuine comment Bottom Line Finished an old WIP Researched some Lore Found a type after publishing Updated a longfic after a break Joined a fandom event The final text beneath the grid is as follows: Honour system! It's up to you to decide what counts for you, but here are some details~ Fandom Events can be prompt weeks, collabs, zines, exchanges, or anything involving the wider fandom. You can change the 3k in a day to any amount that feels like a large-but-achievable number for you! "New" counts as "new to you", and "old" is something you have left and come back to after some time has passed. Have fun and happy writing!

#AO3Writers, question for you as a fanartist:

i see a lot of writers posting lists of links to fanart posted on social media in the chapter notes.

🤔 is it annoying when an artist posts their work on AO3 & denotes it as being inspired by your fic (which then shows up as its own separate link)?

The title, description, and notes for an AO3 fanfic: By My Oath by LulaMillay Summary: A newly-sworn paladin of Lolth brings vengeance to a house that scorned the spider queen. But when a beast chained in a bedchamber becomes her only option to succeed, she has to bargain with a prisoner who fears neither violence nor death. Notes: Please mind the tags on this one - nothing graphic but a lot of implied / offscreen violence in this. Drow's gonna Drow. An excerpt from an Ao3 fanfic: Minthara recoiled. The matron had not captured some clever servant of her goddess; this was some shapeshifting darthiir. She had only heard of such aberrations, callow faerie who changed form at will and worshiped the strange green trees. She walked toward the matron’s pet calmly as it threw itself against wards that restrained it, jaws clipping inches from her throat. When she refused to show fear, the beast sat back, vibrating with fury. Subvocalizing punctuated a series of growls as it tried to communicate with her, but she had never lowered herself to learn the speech of common beasts. “Iblith, do you understand me?” The beast gave a low growl, then a quick, intelligent nod. A title and description of an AO3 fic: Summer Mead by LulaMillay Summary: As he sets out on his first adventure, Halsin learns how nature can find a sweet balance, even in civilization. Or, young Halsin has a lovely quickie with a halfling in a lavender field. A NSFW excerpt from an AO3 Fic: Once freed, the halfling's breasts were everything he'd imagined. Pale and expansive, their soft weight shifted as she leaned back in the tilled soil, breathless from their impulsive sprint from the tavern to the lavender field. The rows of flowers were fragrant in full bloom, just tall enough to hide two young lovers as he kneeled before her. Her family’s bees hummed softly above, paying them no mind. His hand worked quickly inside her skirts while the other gently palmed one of those soft breasts, pulling a stiffening bud between his fingers as he buried his face in the warmth of it. Layered with the salt on her skin and the heat of her arousal she carried the sweet tang of the honey mead she had served him a scant half hour ago. It seemed infused into all of her. Her back arched as he found his prize, dipping inside to gently explore and scissor slick fingers. When he was confident she could take his girth if she wished, he leaned back to sample her arousal as it dripped down his hand. Honey mead, again, decadent and sweet.
