#Bertamyia
Too many negative perceptions of true #flies, #Diptera, but they're SUPER diverse! Take a moment to appreciate a few of the many wonderful forms:

bee #fly; #Bombyliidae: #Ogcodocera
peacock fly; #Ulidiidae: #Callopistromyia
flat-footed fly; #Platypezidae: #Bertamyia
crane fly; #Tipulidae: #Orimarga

For #insectweek, a beautiful visitor on a leaf. So tiny I almost missed it, until the shimmering cuticle caught my eye. A beautiful little fly #Diptera in the genus (I think) Bertamyia, its red eyes and chrome-like thorax remind me of a Battlestar Galactica Cylon vibe.

A lot of choices but I think I'm in the mood to show off this beautiful platypezid fly, Bertamyia notata, taken in Ohio last year. Wish I could have taken more (and better) pictures of her but she didn't stay very long. The silver parts are iridescent!

Bertamyia, some of the prettiest little flies you'll see. Starting to see a couple dancing about this time of year. 🩵

Bertamyia notata lass. Just one of a kind, with all that pearlescent. 🩵

It was too cold out today even for the Bertamyia notata I was expecting this time of year, so here's one from last year. Just a quality dipteran effort here. 🩵
