#Copyeditor
Thank all the gods in the universe for a good copyeditor.

Everyone needs a copyeditor. Everyone.
The author of this book has forgotten how old one of their main characters is and has now made her two years older than she was 100 pages ago.

Disrespectful of you, disrespectful of the copyeditor, disrespectful of the audience.

"You REWRITE wombat? you rewrite her story like a newspaper? oh! oh! jail for copyeditor! jail for copyeditor for One Thousand Years!"

It’s like when the copyeditor leaves a note saying “Oh, this is messed up.” You get a warm fuzzy glow.

Oh god. And it looks like the copyeditor was conscientious, too.

Copyeditor: You use "fairy tale" "fairy-tale" and "fairytale" in different places in this book, for consistency, which do you want?

Me: Surely it is apparent that I don't have a preference here?

thanks to our copyeditor we did not proclaim today that Beijing's position is that China belongs to Taiwan.

I have been known to get pissy when a copyeditor rewrites a single sentence, never mind substantial portions.

It’s a grim world, post-copyeditor

As a copyeditor, it's always fun to leave a query like, "But dragons are mortal too, right?" on a project.

Copyeditor: Are you sure you want to refer to Peter Singer as ‘notorious’?
Me: Yes.

Reading a book on desert gardening, and it’s fine, if basic, but I think it needed a better copyeditor.

“Like humans, calcium and potassium are part of a healthy diet for plants.”

…are they, now.

If there's one thing I've learned as an editor and copyeditor, it's that people have startlingly strong, thinly sourced opinions about language
I love Bluesky, but it speaks to the nerdiness of our user base that today's main character/quote dunk victim is someone who was offering some writing tips people disagree with.

Draft 3 of Book 11 delivered, the next step is the tender ministrations of the copyeditor. Onwards to adventure!

The copyeditor has just pointed out that my 103,000-word book contains over 230 ellipses, and I refuse to feel shame. FREE THE ELLIPSES... THEY SERVE A PURPOSE... THEY ARE POWERFUL!

I'm in a debate with a copyeditor about the correct word for a group of vampires. Yes, we are publishing a serious scholarly text here.

For fuck's sake the second richest man in the world bankrolls this slop. Hire a copyeditor.

For a while I was worried that I was going to have to become an army copyeditor, but I managed to dodge the draft.

As a copyeditor, this is why I cry
I love using words slightly wrong. Like, I just wrote that the setting sun "emblazons" the ocean. It's not quite what that word "emblazon" means, but close enough — plus it has "blaze" in it so it's wordplay. Using words incorrectly is awesome. #amwriting
