My keystone talk on #LongCovid from last year is now online, basically 2 short talks:

From 6:00-16:20: Craniocervical instability & related issues in LC: youtu.be/53ESiGehdKY?...

16:20-21:00: Illness duration (changes & progression we see in LC over time)

Now imagine craniocervical instability where the brain stem is getting knocked around every day for years on end…

Colgate University researchers studying 6 college football players found that even mild head impacts changed gut bacteria within 3 days.

The microbiome also drifted further from baseline over the season, hinting at cumulative effects.

Even mild blows to the head disrupt the microbiome
Some bacterial species became less abundant in the guts of American football players as the season progressed.

Interesting #MEspine note in this:

“We postulate that instability and obstructions at the craniocervical junction may contribute to impaired movement and production of CSF, in turn altering MMP or cytokine levels in either cluster.”

"The heterogeneity in the literature suggests that individuals living with ME/CFS may suffer from overlapping but different underlying

Gilete in Barcelona has an interest in ME and is a very interesting clinician researcher; not sure if he’s published on ME yet.

Spinal problems such as Chiari malformation and craniocervical instability can impair the drainage of cerebrospinal fluid, resulting in an increase in intracranial pressure that leads to brainstem compression. 14/20 link.springer.com/article/10.1...

i simply think it shouldn't be that hard to keep the craniocervical area stable.

(My current lead theory is cerebral venous outflow insufficiency caused by stylogenic compression or excess bone growth at the C1 transverse process triggered by repeated subluxation, but craniocervical instability and Chiari 0 are still both on the list.)

I’m currently getting treatment for #IIH. Nothing to report other than a headache that’s gradually getting better.

The connection to #ME/CFS is so interesting! Another promising and underfunded avenue of research.

Pleased to see this getting discussed. There is a total lack of support in the UK for people with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome suffering Craniocervical Instability.

We've been on this awful journey & fundraised for major neurosurgery in Spain, it saved Liv's life when NHS wouldn't help.

Alright, #NEISvoid: Anybody wanna share their personal experience with craniocervical instability related to hEDS? I'm info gathering before talking to my neurologist.
November 24, 2024 at 7:26 AM
But at this point and after all the workups etc, I have narrowed it down to cerebral venous outflow insufficiency (with one of two possible root causes) or craniocervical instability EVEN THOUGH the MRA ruled out the CCI because EDS can cause CCI at "subclinical" levels
February 11, 2026 at 11:36 PM
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome was first classified in 1968 with 5 types. Today there are 13 — and hypermobile EDS makes up 90% of cases. Women = 70%. Diagnosis can take 4–16 yrs. On (MIS)Treated, @namshine.bsky.social talks to Sydney Gesualdi about EDS & Craniocervical Instability.
