So the spirits of the Connecticut Four are sitting on my shoulder and asking me: if the feds rolled up to your library and asked you to generate a list of patrons with Hispanic last names, with maybe their addresses and current checkouts, could you do that?

i think it's bad if you can do that 📚
“It depends if you look Hispanic.”

📚 Hello skybrarian feed and critical librarians: would you be interested in a Critlib feed with a contributor list for Critical Librarianship-type discourse on here?

Ahead of that, here is a feed aggregating #Critlib and #critcat skeets: bsky.app/profile/did:... (add takes to make it less bare)

An excellent, timely read for the #MedLibs, especially. 🦀 A critique of the transphobic Cass Review but more than that, Lockmiller suggests our reliance on evidence-based practice reinforces the false neutrality of neoliberalism. #critlib
"This paper explores the relationship between EBP as a system of knowledge governance, its implementation in library work, and the means by which librarians’ value-neutral commitments to EBP consequently serve the interests of oppressive regimes."

As a library worker without a library degree I have always felt a good deal of imposter syndrome about that identity and my ability to do it justice. One of the critiques the text got during peer review asked me to dig deeper into #critlib conversations if I wanted to claim it.

colleague & I submitted a proposal for the Illinois Information Literacy Summit, to present a roundtable on #criticalAI & #CritLib.

we’re trying to gather other IL-based library workers that are not interested in AI as the all-encompassing answer to mitigating our relationship with tech & power
