As a R/Py data analyst I hesitate using AI as a source-to-viz pipeline (as opposed to frontend dashboarding) precisely because data manipulation is more of an art than algorithmic. Inevitably QA/QCing AI work for mistakes is pretty debugging someone elses code which is slow and painful

Rebranding the "student evaluation of instruction" to the "student experience of instruction" is not a meaningful reform of this process, and the ways that UBC wants to move with the statistical relevance test for SEI data (and dashboarding etc.) - this is extremely concerning to me.

For locked-in work like business intelligence, dashboarding, kpis, etc? Sure, take fewer risks. Do whatever is sufficient and is proven to work well enough.
But don't assume our whole field operates with the same constraints, goals, and outcomes.

This is an excellent article. The notes on dashboards and dashboarding are particularly salient: I think that @spavel.bsky.social in particular has had a lot to say about the "dashbot" phenomenon in design and UX spaces.

Oh I know, probably because no one makes any money that way, much better if you can persuade senior civil servants their own staff have no talent for this stuff and they simply must buy your ready built “dashboarding solution”

welp...my boss thinks that the responsibility for dashboarding should be moved to me bc my coworker continues to kind of flop and not produce what we need. and i was kinda like...ok but i do still have all these other responsibilities sooo
