Deskilling

This is why I call AI a deskilling project.
The perfect way to put it. They found a way to worm a subscription between you and your normal work.

Deskilling is real.

This is the world generative AI peddlers long for, one where people are incompetent without their service.

Don't outsource your brain to this shit. You'll regret it.
help my job says i have to do my job what do i do help

Who could have foreseen that the deskilling machine would lead to ... deskilling.

Hey would you look at that...
The magic deskilling machine is deskilling people
Physicians are using A.I. for diagnoses and more. But a new study found evidence that relying on A.I. tools might erode a doctor’s ability to perform fundamental skills without the technology, a phenomenon known as “deskilling.”
Are A.I. Tools Making Doctors Worse at Their Jobs?
Physicians are using the technology for diagnoses and more — but may be losing skills in the process.

lolol hope y'all preserved the normal functioning of your brains and avoided the great deskilling
Today Microsoft moved all its GitHub copilot subscribers to token-based billing.
If you want to see what happens when people have to pay the actual costs of AI, the day is finally here. It's obvious that every customer sees the deep, meaningful value and isn't angry at all.

so glad my union has decided to embrace deskilling its own members!
This will be an innovative new training space where educators will learn not just about how A.I. works, but how to use it wisely, safely and ethically. It will be a place where tech developers and educators can talk with each other, not past each other. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/08/t...

Deskilling as a phenomenon should be taken seriously. It’s something all of us do. I used to be a cocktail waiter, but now have to google basic recipes.

The worrying aspect is how many are now deskilling while those skills are still actively useful. This is folks opting into skill rental.
Doctors 25% more likely to miss a diagnosis on a patient within 3 months after Ai is implemented. The results indicate Ai has an immediate negative effect on professionals skillsets vs prolonged reliance.

the real cognitive deskilling is schitts creek gifs
A lot of people, including me, have said of genAI produced content, if you can't be bothered to write it, I can't be bothered to read it

but this is also how I feel about people replying to my posts with memes or gifs instead of trying to come up with a genuine response on their own

Oh so deskilling was a relevant concern.

So many people are self sabotaging by deskilling via this nonsense right now. Want an edge in 2027? Don’t build reliance on bad tools into your process in 2025.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

People were like no, using genAI doesn't deskill you.

And then *all* the CEO's started announcing that not only is deskilling the explicit goal, but then they brag that they don't know how to toast a poptart

one thing i think is that while the AI job apocalypse isn't going to happen, deskilling of white collar labour definitely is
April 20, 2026 at 1:06 AM
The deskilling is one of the creepiest parts... because they make so much so easy, why try?

Bit by bit they allow your abilities to whither...
Read it slowly and understand it. 😳🥺

GenAI evangelists: there is no deskilling. You become as a god, a machine god, you-

Every GenAI CEO: no one needs to know how to read and also I don't know how to put my pants on anymore

Yes! And note the "deskilling"—that one is very important and not talked about enough.
This sums it up perfectly. It’s not a conversation.

This is deskilling *the* most vital, essential parts of writing code. The part of writing code that actually makes software work, that supposedly justifies being paid programmer salaries.

everyone who uses an llm to code more than me is voluntarily deskilling themselves, everyone who uses it less than me might as well be hand-wiring together vacuum tubes
