#Edusky science educators- an inspiring reminder. 🧪🍎
One of the most important things you can do today is your science. Knowing calculus/physics/genetics/chemistry etc. makes you rare and the world will need you to rebuild tomorrow. Practice your skills and pass them on. Keep the flame alive.

HALF of all federally funded clinical trials would be “illegal” under the new OMB rule.

LEAVE YOUR PUBLIC COMMENT AND YELL AT YOUR CONGRESS CRITTERS.
Russell Vought has a plan for science, but so do we.

With students heading back to the classroom, a group of cognitive scientists and AI researchers has published one of the most forceful and evidence-backed calls yet to reject the "uncritical adoption of AI" in academia:
Cognitive scientists and AI researchers make a forceful call to reject “uncritical adoption" of AI in academia
A new paper calls on academia to repel rampant AI in university departments and classrooms.

🧪The entire staff of the Department of Education’s NCES-a vital independent statistical agency - has just been RIFed. The continued erasure of data and evidence allows for the Trump administration to hide the impact of their corruption.

Educators- this is our work right here. No matter what you teach , you must teach and reward critical thinking!!!
The question you should be asking yourself isn't "why are stupid people in charge?" It's "who is susceptible to this messaging and why is it working?"

My latest for @sciam.bsky.social is all about the real biology, ecology, and climate science that is used to create the world of Pokémon, and how scientists use it to teach science in the real world.

This is just about the most fun I’ve ever had interviewing anyone, and I hope you enjoy! 🧪🌎
The Pokémon universe goes hard on ecology and climate science
The Pokémon franchise, including its recent game Pokémon Pokopia, is inspired by real animals and their ecology. It’s no surprise that so many scientists love to try and “catch ’em all”

These are a few of my favorite things! Libraries, books 📚 and science 🧪! Great @scifri.bsky.social story for #NationalLibraryWeek. #EduSky
Librarians at public libraries "are there to know books, get to know your kid, and find stuff that really supports your family throughout a child’s reading life and lifelong," says librarian Carrie Wolfson.

This #NationalLibraryWeek, we’re revisiting last year's top science books for kids.

I received a heartbreaking email today: A paper in a special issue I’m editing is being retracted because one of its authors is afraid of losing their job and their legal status in the U.S. if they publish a scientific study on evolution. Yes, on evolution, nature's engine of diversity.

I wanted to consolidate a few thoughts on google, misinformation, large language models, enshittification, and the fate of the web as we know it.

It started when @carlzimmer.bsky.social shared this remarkable example of Google being fooled by machine-generated bullshit online.

I can't believe Google still delivers this result.
