GTPBP1 is a GTPase implicated in neurodevelopment. Our cryo-EM maps show GTPBP1 delivering tRNA to ribosome.

Due to delayed GTPase dissociation, mRNA decoding is more stringent than with bona fide delivery factor eEF1A.

One key question is how adhesion & cell shape change are regulated. Cell-cell signaling via small GTPases of the Ras superfamily is key. In their active state they bind proteins like Canoe/Afadin and “turn them on”. We’re seeking to understand how the small GTPase Rap1 regulates Canoe. 5/n

Exciting work from neighbor Jörn Coers at Duke identifying a new class of host defense GTPases. Out of a genetic screen they identify the human Giant GTPase GVIN1 (previously annotated as a human pseudogene) in coatomer-based restriction of Burkholderia motility. 1808 aas long!

Bacterial cell division folks take note: @eswaralab.bsky.social lab reports that GpsB interacts with FtsZ and stimulates FtsZ GTPase activity in multiple G+ organisms (not just in #staph)! It also serves as an alternative to FtsA in anchoring FtsZ.
