1/ Our #healthsystem is unraveling. And it's happening fast. Last week alone we saw silenced scientists, gutted safety nets, and cancer info teams shut down. We’re not just spinning wheels, we’re speeding toward collapse. So what would building something better really look like? 🧵

Lordy, the waiting lists. And the procedures not properly covered by Medicare. (I have been so grateful to private surgeon & anaesthetist generosity in reducing fees for repeat necessary treatments.) Australia's #healthsystem now rich v poor, city v regional, especially maternity.

I'm not going to say the US healthsystem is great or even good but listen to stories of various countries and you see they all have issues even though they're universal.

UK: so NHS is massively understaffed thanks to policy choices that they have LONG wait lists

"This person's cancer (in a vital organ) cannot be surgically treated in the public system for three months. Cancer does not wait..."

"t is quite apparent that we now have a two-tier system where money determines whether you live or die

I don't think our healthsystem or companies are ready for the side effects of longterm exposure to things like heat and smoke.
August 11, 2026 at 6:14 PM
Yes, they did.
Because...
1. Labour started the project
2. Tax cuts needed more money
3. If we had an IT systems that actually worked, it might improve productivity and wait times in the healthsystem and undermine this government's goal to privatise it

ACIP now not recommending the HepB vaccine is an atrocity. This is against the grain of major medical organizations and doesnt make sense in a healthsystem where prenatal care/screening are a struggle for many and deaths from HepB are unnecessarily high.

Question: Whats the difference between a surgeon and god?

Answer: God doesn’t think they’re a surgeon!!

I may be preaching to the choir, but get your #flu shot! Scared of needles? There's an inhaled vaccine!
Allergic to eggs? We've got recombinant and cell-based vaccines!
Dislike the US #healthsystem? Any #vaccine at all will make you less likely to have to interact with it!
we did not get a quiet day.

go get your damn flu shots people.
happy liminal space between holidays friyay of weirdness for everyone who has to go work today (like me)
I hope everyone calls off/cancels appts and no one bothers you and you just get a quiet day

The #HealthSystem is so broken #UHL is the most #Overcrowded hospital on the entire island and #Consultants only work 9 to 5 and certain wards close at 6pm of a Friday eve for the weekend when there’s so many people waiting for a ward bed?! #Madness

I just want to go home! 😫

"On paper, Raewyn and her family exemplify “middle New Zealand”. The systems we have are theoretically designed for families like theirs. And yet … it doesn’t."

On paper, the system works for families like Raewyn’s. In reality? It only works because of her. This post makes visible the invisible labour of parents navigating complex health, disability, and social systems in Aotearoa NZ:

Let's stop trying to fix symptoms of #HealthSystem problems; instead we should be carefully considering what exactly should be addressed at the root. Political expedience & 4 yr election cycles make us jump to inelegant policies that have unintended, often negative consequences.

Our health system is in peril. The future of Canadian #healthcare is in home & #communities, not institutions; but too many people in our #HealthSystem remain obsessed with protecting the past. They need to start clearing the way for the future, rather than continuing to obstruct it
