@marianneroca.bsky.social shows that six ciliated sensory neurons are crucial for prey searching. (IL2 neurons, which are sex-shared neurons in #celegans. IL2 neurons are important for dauer nictation and shed extracellular vesicles in reproductively growing animals.) Super exciting preprint!

This reminded me of when IL2-Sturmovik was released on PC.

il2 BoS servers are one of the funniest examples of ww2 video game shenanigans because the axis are always leading in kills and they're all in fighters but then some allied virtual squadron puts together a twenty plane bomber raid and wins the game by actually playing the objective

In our new paper, lead by @marianneroca.bsky.social, we show which sensory modalities are crucial for a predating worm, which all are sensed in the IL2’s. And the IL2’s are sensitive to octopamine, promoting aggression in these worms 🧠🪱🔬🧪

The impact has been enormous, with Tregs going from being a niche frowned-upon subset of immunology, to underpinning our entire understanding of how the immune system works. Therapies based on boosting Tregs (e.g. IL2) or bypassing Tregs (anti-CTLA4) are in the clinic.
