the most leftist college instructor I ever had was probably my macroecon prof lol

Hes an easy read as a wormy little shitheel. Try lightly criticizing his lukewarm decontextualized macroecon bullshit and see how he reacts.

macroecon is macroecon. Tony's right. See my replies in here.
Private colleges/universities employ 1.7mm people, total state government education is 2.7mm. Only a small fraction of total employment for those to categories will be impacted.

This is not mean to sound cold or to minimize anything *but from a macroeconomic perspective* tiny is the right word.

Micro theory is STEM, all macroecon is humanities, empirical econ is modern art

it is the duty of every patriotic american to find someone who thinks doge is good and beat them to death with a macroecon textbook

to rich people, inflation is financially painful, and unemployment is at most annoying

to poor people, inflation is financially painful, and unemployment is starvation

make conclusions about which one you are closer to and get back to me with your takes on macroecon then

Most macroecon models don't take so many different pieces and slam them together into one unified whole, which makes FRB/US pretty unique, especially since it's all basically open source.

You ever sit in a class and struggle because you understand the material at a level deeper than what is being presented...?

That's me in my macroecon class.

It’s all the guys who took Econ 101 and then never made it to macroecon
February 2, 2025 at 11:31 PM
Assuming you don't look at macroecon stats, how do you think you assess inflation? For example, what matters more -- aggregate increase in price of the usual stuff you buy, or price increase to specific stuff, e.g. rent, electric, protein, gas.

The public don't have to know Macroecon 101 to understand that starting a war in the middle east raised the price of oil. We have plenty of folklore and pre-written narratives people can use to understand this.

yeah I swear people overindex on the weird right-wing macroecon people, are scared of math, and so reject the entire discipline in a way that would absolutely baffle both Karl Marx and the Soviets.

Yes sure at that level of abstraction of course but in fact the actual real debate this is being referred to is just as the OP says. Biden pursued progressive macroecon, it had inflationary effects even as real wages grew faster, and when people pointed out the latter they got the OP chart nonsense.

Macroecon is astrology for rich people.

Nate once tried to dunk on me for refusing to be exposed to conservative ideas (my tweet was about thinking my college macroecon class was stupid, which it was), which suggested that he read my Twitter bio far enough to see I work in media but not far enough to see where I’m from or went to school
My Christmas present to all of you is the context that this was *directly in response* to getting clowned on for confusing a state legislative redistricting issue for a congressional one, among the most elementary and humiliating errors a political commentator could make

"AI is so dangerous on computers that computer programmers are fleeing to the safest language"

is sort of how i would put this trend as a macroecon, or like, a novelist lol
gdi the argument that you ought to use rust for ai coding does seem really compelling

i did correctly note that both will and mussolini agree - fascism doesn’t rely on material conditions! sadly nearly the entire macroecon community disagrees. fascism is just one of the common endpoints of underregulated capitalism

I think someone should make a macroecon benchmark because its like a blackhole for agents. Its incredibly easy for them to get lost in questions and try and re-produce a framework that exists midquestion
