Eight-spotted Forester Moth, Alypia octomaculata. The iridescence visible on the black scales is quite common on many moths that at a distance appear black, looking closer reveals such beauty.

The ocelli, primitive eyes are arranged in an inverted triangular pattern in the center of the head. The slender gray antennae extend towards the camera. The mantid's raptorial arms and pronotum, the area just behind the head, are colored gray with mottled light green and some black markings, a very lichen-like color and pattern which aids concealment.

The Northern Dusk Singing #Cicada, #Megatibicen grossa (Aka El Fatto Farto ( @sockynoob.bsky.social ) Is Eastern North America's largest cicadas. This very friendly, freshly molted one was just a touch under 3 inches long.
