I'm not calling these games out as like, lesser art. But I think their proliferation was because they met a subconscious need from audiences that view ttrpg gaming as either Dungeonslime Murderhobos or Gay TeaTime.

God I hate russia. How many kindergartens or science programs or medical help could be given for that money. Logic is offcourse sound, put 2% more now or 50% in a decade. But still, blody nation of murderhobos

The Iliad makes for such a great game setting! (It probably already is the case already)
The characters are all murderhobos obsessed with glory (clearly their version of XP) and loot. They're super moody and passion driven, like the knights in Pendragon.

so, I think, what we're actually seeing is a rising trend in play culture where the maladaptive behaviours of a disruptive player archetype have become so widespread that its just kinda assumed.
We saw a similar thing in the days of dnd 3.5 with the rise of hyperoptimised murderhobos.
