Oh, the follow-on is that there are beta-blockers that are non-fat soluble *may* show less of this response (YMMV etc etc because... bodies)

Non-fat soluble: Atenolol, celiprolol, nadolol, solatol (cleared by kidney)

Fat-soluble: Metoprolol, propanolol, pindolol, labetalol (cleared by liver)

Oh I am so curious about this because istg my Corgard/Nadolol scripts do not work the same. They told me they switched manufacturers I think due to it being out of stock for ages? And it just straight up did not appear to work at all

Agree - We mostly use bisoprolol (or nadolol) three times a week post dialysis - since they are so long acting. Arguably also Atenolol given HDPAL trial

That’s our first line in HD. Then amlodipine

I take Nadolol (generic Corgard). I also recently had MRI guided Focused Ultrasound for my right hand.

For me, I take Nadolol and Nortriptyline to prevent my migraines. When I do get a migraine, I take Cambia

Anyone on nadolol / corgard and affected by some shortage?

I’ve been on it for many years and haven’t faced a shortage, but on many other beta blockers I’ve been in CCU.

*looking for Rx info, not dx*

Beta blockers:
💊 Examples: Propranolol, metoprolol, nadolol

🧪 Main mechanism: Blocking the effect of stress hormones (adrenaline/noradrenaline)

Beta blockers tend to both lower heart rate and lower blood pressure. For this reason, they are often a better choice for hyperPOTS

Thank you for this. I’ve been struggling finding any shortage info and although this list didn’t have mine, I know it’ll help someone.

For knowledge, I’ve learned from pharm it’s only 40mg nadolol being affected not other dosages. Unknown why or duration.

I hope whatever your issue is that you get some insight and care that helps! I for one will always be annoyed (grateful) at my cardiologist who talked me into giving up alcohol as one step to address anxiety episodes, along with nadolol. It worked. Dammit. But if he comes for my coffee...

Also never underestimate gently bullying/asking your doctors to try something new, I personally am on 10mg of Nadolol (the lowest dosage possible iirc) and any higher would put me in bad shape😖 there’s always other options and reading up on them has helped me get better care personally ❣️

...In other news, I just realised that I had the name of my dad's blood pressure medication wrong, because he always says "Nadolol" as if it was a vosa vaka-Viti word 🇫🇯

Even with aving severe MCAS, I haven’t been bothered much at all from it.

Also big shout out to my doctor for being open to trying out Nadolol - something they have never prescribed but I wanted to try as it’s easier on pwMCAS.

Turns out to be the winner BB for me! 🥳

I wonder if 40mg were used more often b/c 80mg was in short supply earlier in the year? How is the availability of the 20mg tablets? In our facility we had to waste the second half if we split scored tablets so splitting 80mg would be a waste.

Different beta blockers have different effects: they may block β1 or β1 & 2 receptors, they can have different half lives, & they can get metabolised through different pathways. As such, trying different beta blockers may be needed to find what works

The hormone Glucagon is secreted less due to a decrease in sympathetic response after B-blockers are administered.

In particular, Non-selective ones such as Propranolol and Nadolol, for example, are notorious for causing Hypoglycemia according to research.

I read up on and watched a video on Nadolol. Some of the symptoms I am having are not abnormal and in theory should abate. But some shouldn't be happening at all. I wonder if I can take it at night and sleep through the worst?
