I was at a wedding once where the officiant, a former (or maybe current, idk) professor from Liberty had a very odd tangent about how biblical slavery wasn't as bad as more recent slavery. I do not remember how he linked it to marriage.

Skeleton Trivia for Tuesday, 2026-09-29
Hiya Skeleton Crew, Y’know, I said how I went to my pal Vermes’s weddin last week, but I never actually told ya how that went. Well, it went pretty good … ’cept for one thing: my ARCH-NEMESIS was the OFFICIANT!!! Maybe yer askin, “Arch-nemesis, Mr. S? How could a guy like you have somethin so nasty as an arch-nemesis? That’s pretty serious business.” To which I’d say: yeah!!! It IS serious business!!! **REAL SERIOUS BUSINESS**!!! Just who IS this arch-nemesis, maybe ya wanna know? Well, it ain’t none other than the hideous, insidious, perfidious, & altogether just plain UNPLEASANT CAPTAIN NEMO TOAD _(bleeeeagh 🤢 auuugh 🤮 yeeeugh)_ Ah jeez, I don’t even wanna THINK ’bout that guy any more. #### Answers to Last Time * It’s ****reverse osmosis**** that most big desalination plants use these days. * In golf, gettin four under par is called a ****condor**** , & it’s a rare enough thing that it ain’t ever happened in a pro tournament. ## Today’s Trivias # Trivia 1 If ya wanna make somethin instantly cooler, ya just reverse it. Like osmosis! Regular osmosis? Pretty good. REVERSE osmosis? _Now_ yer cookin! Or, like, engineerin: it’s cool, it’s fine, maybe a li’l borin. But REVERSE engineerin? _That’s_ where all the cool kids are at! And boustrophedon? That’s fine … for ANCIENT GREEK. But if ya wanna carve somethin _real_ special – like, say, a rongorongo tablet – then ya better up yer game to REVERSE boustrophedon. What’s rongorongo & reverse boustrophedon, maybe ya wanna know? Well, I’ll tell ya! Rongorongo’s a system of glyphs that some folks think might be one of the few independent inventions of written language in human history! It looks like this: A li’l bit of rongorongo inscribed on somethin called the “Santiago Staff Reverse boustrophedon just describes the way the glyphs are written. Regular boustrophedon means that ya do a mirror flip of the text for every other line, like this: Whereas REVERSE boustrophedon means ya do a 180° flip of every other line, not a mirror flip: Anyways, rongorongo inscriptions come from **what island**? Although this place was first settled probably sometime ’round 1200 CE, the first European fella to peep it was a Dutch guy named Jacob Roggeveen on April 5, 1722. # Trivia 2 Another fun reversal ya mighta run into if ya ever used an old Hewlett-Packard calculator is postfix notation, a.k.a. “Reverse **WHAT** ” notation? The name ultimately comes from the logician Jan Łukasiewicz, who invented the non-reversed version of this notation back in 1924. * * * 💀 Submit Your Answers 💀 💀 View Season Leaderboard 💀 * * * ## OK then Byeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Why do I have this feeling that the lot of you are going to bomb my ass this week whilst singing “Vrou van Samaria”?

Where is the proof? Show me the evidence? Eh? Where is the photo, certificate, names in the register? Who are the two witnesses and officiant?

I dare you. No, I CHALLENGE YOU.

I wasn't in GNE, but I was a very avid Glitch player* and scanned the thread to see if someone else would contribute this lore.

*I was the officiant in what may have been the first Glitch "wedding."

[illiterate officiant voice] i now pronounce you incorrectly

You probably should not record podfics if your speaking voice sounds like the wedding officiant from the princess bride

My print copy of our discussion forum on superstition in Magic, Ritual, and Witchcraft finally arrived. Robert Blunt had a nice commentary on my article in his Afterword.

The “I will” part: I combined a bunch of wedding officiant lines I looked up with another line from the Lightkeepers’ Oath - specifically the line that Illuga canonly recites over and over

Them saying “I will” over “I do” felt more fitting for the two. A vow for the future.

Yeah my friend had become an officiant for a different wedding and she was fine with being a go to, to sign paperwork for people who needed it
September 27, 2026 at 4:51 AM
My former boss was registered as an officiant and she signed the paperwork one day after I got off work. There was 1 picture taken and both my wife and her are 7 months pregnant.
September 27, 2026 at 4:48 AM
Yeah we were going to just sign paperwork but we needed our friend's signature as the officiant. She talked us into a *tiny* backyard thing with some friends.

My niece asked me about it recently audibly gasped when I said I wore jeans LOL

And 100% agree

Such a lovely moment to bring all of their closest friends and family together in support of their union.

Congratulations again, Emily & Ryan! 💙

If you have a vampire problem, I recommend becoming ordained by the Universal Life Church. Then you can make your own holy water and use any symbol you want as your holy symbol.

the article mentions two of his most notable contributions, focusing on one, devoting a paragraph to his ruling on haunted house disclosures (later overturned) and completely missing that he was our wedding officiant.

Before the law passed, navigating New York was a harrowing exercise in dog-feces avoidance. As he put it, sometimes “you would come home and have it all over you.”

Oh man. If someone did that on Clemson/South Carolina day, no one would go. Including the officiant.

Oh that's amazing. She was our original officiant, but Cantor Lisa (who also rocks) ended up subbing in.
September 25, 2026 at 9:43 PM
HAHAHAHA it took me a while to decide on the officiant... but it's just so fun to think of her taking great pleasure in all this drama
