On my way to BaselOne, where I'll present a live-coding session on #JakartaEE, #MicroProfile and #OpenLiberty. In 45 minutes I'll build a REST app (almost) from scratch, demonstrating that this technology has come a long way since the WebSphere days. 😊 Looking forward!

I guess they're either implementing it in eclipselink or switching to hibernate.

If you like, leave a thumbs up on the GitHub issue. If you do happen to have an #IBM account, I'd be happy if you voted for it over there, too! :)

Interesting development. and also makes some sense, but I also wonder what will happen with OpenLiberty?
February 6, 2025 at 4:03 PM
Let's see, I am interested in:
#Java, #JavaEE, #JakartaEE, #OpenJDK, #OpenJ9, #GlassFish, #OpenLiberty, #WildFly, #Jetty, #Tomcat, and sometime #SpringFramework and #SpringBoot.
That ought to do (for now)

The other problem comparing a specification to an implementation. Better to compare Spring Boot to WildFly or OpenLiberty than to all of JakartaEE. Current versions of those certainly can run on Java 17 or 21 today. How well they can take advantage of newer JDK 21 features like virtual threads? 🤷‍♂️

A OpenLiberty da IBM está bem alinhada com as especificações da Microprofile.

A espec Telemetry está alinhada com boas práticas de tracing para arquitetura de microservices

It rocks. It's much more productive than using OpenLiberty. The CLI is useful for setting up extensions and using the dev mode. I also started using the vscode extension for Quarkus. Good editing experience. The testing experience is the only thing that broke on me. I guess that's because of config.

I tried openliberty, but that's just too much work for me. I especially can't understand why they make the configuration so complex? I just want to dump a .env file on disk and be done with it. Instead I'm editing several files that don't always behave as documented.

For the Java devs out there - is setting up openliberty always a hassle or am I dumb? Lol

Open Liberty has good Maven docs. Its getting-started path is spread across several pages.

I connected and tested it: dev mode, hot reload, live-server tests, a clean CI build, and a runnable JAR.
